Inclusive design in eLearning means ensuring that all learners, regardless of their abilities or backgrounds, can access and benefit from the courses. This isn't just about compliance with standards; it's about genuinely enriching the learning journey for every individual. Inclusive design begins with empathy. Understanding the diverse needs of learners guides us to create courses that are not only accessible but also meaningful. This approach ensures that learning materials are presented in a way that accommodates a wide range of learners. Accessibility features, like subtitles for videos, screen reader compatibility, and adjustable text sizes, are fundamental. However, inclusive design goes beyond these. It involves structuring content in a way that is intuitively navigable and providing alternative forms of engagement so that everyone has the opportunity to interact with the material in a way that suits them best. Moreover, culturally responsive content is crucial. This means being mindful of cultural references and examples so that they resonate with a global audience and avoiding cultural biases that could alienate or offend learners. Every design choice that reduces barriers to learning is a step towards a more inclusive world. Let's discuss how we can further this commitment to inclusion in our eLearning projects. What strategies have you found effective in creating accessible learning environments? #InclusiveDesign #eLearning #Accessibility #LearningAndDevelopment #EdTech

Are your learners playing a frustrating game of visual ping-pong during your eLearning courses? 🏓🤔 The Spatial Contiguity Principle reminds us that the placement of information can significantly impact learning efficiency. When graphics and text are far apart, learners waste precious cognitive resources jumping back and forth, potentially missing crucial connections. 🧠💨 Let's explore how we can leverage this principle to create more effective learning experiences: 👉 Integrate Labels Directly Place labels directly on graphics rather than in separate legends. This reduces the mental effort required to match information, allowing learners to grasp concepts more quickly and easily. 🏷️📊 👉 Keep Instructions Visible Ensure that directions are always visible while learners are completing tasks. This eliminates the need to switch between screens or rely on memory, reducing cognitive load and frustration. 📝👀 👉 Provide Adjacent Feedback Display feedback right next to the learner's response. This immediate juxtaposition helps learners quickly understand their mistakes and reinforces correct answers. 🎯✅ 👉 Use Proximity to Show Relationships Group related information closely together on the screen. This visual proximity helps learners understand connections and relationships between different elements. 🔗🤝 By applying these tips, you can create eLearning experiences that flow more naturally, reduce unnecessary cognitive load, and ultimately lead to better learning outcomes. Remember, in eLearning design, location matters! 📍🎓 #eLearning #InstructionalDesign #CognitiveLoad #LearningTheory #UserExperience ---------------------- Hi! On the tail end of months of work. I realized the hybrid course I developed years ago could be better shortly after it was launched. I wanted content that had better quality, that’s more interactive and is more easily digestible. So, I revamped all of my presentations and got in touch with the instructional design department. They helped me learn new teaching skills for online learning and it has made my content exceed what I thought was possible back then. A lot of late nights, hours researching, constant editing, learning how to record in different formats and organizing content on the LMS, but I believe it’s all coming together. Just a few final touches left to go. #onlineeducation #progress #elearning #hybridlearning

There is often a little confusion around levels of expectation on Learning Experience Design. This is a subjective explanation but hopefully helps to clarify a few things. Learning Experience Design (LXD) is a multidisciplinary approach that combines elements from instructional design, educational pedagogy, user experience design, visual, audio and interaction design to create effective, engaging, and enjoyable learning experiences. Here’s a breakdown of the levels of Learning Experience Design: Level 1: Passive Interactivity (Form-Based) Level 1 is the most basic form of an eLearning experience, which can include elements such as linear navigation, on-screen text, stock imagery, bespoke graphics, infographics, and quizzes. Level 1 is a very impactful option for rapid prototyping and eLearning content development. Level 2: Limited Interactivity (Form-Based) Level 2 will incorporate all of the elements from Level 1 and build on this to include dynamic motion, basic animation, some interactions, and various multimedia types. This is a very popular approach and is often the go-to for most eLearning requirements. Level 3: Complex Interactivity (Free Form-Based) Level 3 incorporates all of the elements from prior levels and is where creativity for the experience can be more complex to produce. It requires a higher skill level to create, and this level typically includes non-linear navigation, custom animation, full interaction, game-based activities, scenarios, and simulations. This is often reserved for more complex training scenarios. Level 4: Full Immersion (Free Form-Based) Level 4 is the most complex Learning Experience level, incorporating all the elements from prior levels, as well as interactive video, 3D simulations, 360’s live action content, VR/AR, and MR. It’s typically useful in situations where you need to immerse yourself in an experience that's as close to real life as possible, such as health & safety or aviation training. Effective Learning Experience Design often involves working across these levels to ensure that individual learning activities are meaningful and that they contribute to larger training goals in a coherent and impactful way. One method does not necessarily fit all requirements and often a combination in one learning journey is the best approach.
Ever wondered how eLearning courses are crafted to keep your learners engaged? 🤔 There's a formula to it, and it includes the Four Layers of Learning Experience Design (LXD). So what exactly is LXD? Learning Experience Design (LXD) is a multidisciplinary approach that combines elements from instructional design, educational pedagogy, user experience design, and interaction design to create effective, engaging, and enjoyable learning experiences. Remember, effective Learning Experience Design often involves working across these levels to ensure that individual learning activities are meaningful and that they contribute to larger training goals in a coherent and impactful way. Often the approach can be best determined by the desired results, think performance output as apposed to instructional input. 📈💻 What's the most memorable course you've ever taken, and what components made it engaging for you? #LearningExperienceDesign #eLearning #BigPictureThinking

This quote perfectly captures the essence of engaging adult learners. They crave practical application, not just information dumps. But how do you translate those engaging classroom experiences into the digital world? This can be tricky with an eLearning course, but not impossible! Here's the secret sauce: problem-solving. Yes, even in an eLearning, you can ditch the boring lectures and turn learning into a discovery adventure. Here are two of my go-to strategies: 1. Show, Don't Tell: Instead of spoon-feeding information, let learners uncover it themselves. Use realistic scenarios and case studies to paint a picture. This way, they become active participants, not passive recipients. ️ 2. Interactive Knowledge Checks: Get creative with think drag-and-drop activities, matching exercises, or even scenario builders. My favorite tool for this? Articulate's scenario builder – it's a game-changer! Bonus Tip: Don't forget the power of real-world application, so you can also assign some post-training tasks for the learner to complete out in the real world once the course is over.
