“Instructional Design: Adult Learners” by Jeff Toister As someone who is passionate about education, learning, and creating impactful experiences, this course has helped hone my skills in designing effective and engaging learning materials. Here are some key takeaways from the course: 🛠️ ADDIE Framework: I learned how to use this foundational model (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, Evaluate) to create structured, learner-centered experiences. 🎯 Learning Objectives: Crafting clear, measurable learning outcomes ensures that both the designer and the learner are aligned from the start. 📊 Assessment Design: Understanding the difference between formative and summative assessments has deepened my ability to measure and track learner progress more effectively. 🎮 Engagement Techniques: Exploring how to use gamification and interactive learning to keep learners motivated and invested in their development. 💻 eLearning Tools: I got hands-on experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and other tools that make virtual learning accessible and impactful. This course has given me a strong foundation to not only design instructional materials that work but to truly create learning experiences that stick with people long after the course is over. I’m excited to continue applying these skills in my professional journey and help others learn, grow, and thrive! 🌱 #InstructionalDesign #LearningExperienceDesign #ProfessionalDevelopment #eLearning #ADDIE #LMS #LearningAndDevelopment #CourseCompleted #LifeLongLearning Just finished the course “Instructional Design: Adult Learners” by Jeff Toister! Instructional Design Glossary ADDIE Model An acronym for Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The ADDIE model is a widely used framework for developing instructional materials and courses. Assessment Tools or activities used to measure learners' understanding or proficiency in a subject. Assessments can be formative(ongoing) or summative (end-of-course). Andragogy The method and practice of teaching adult learners. It contrasts with pedagogy, which focuses on teaching children. Asynchronous Learning Learning that does not happen in real-time. Learners can access materials, complete tasks, and respond to discussions at their own pace (e.g., recorded lectures, discussion boards).

Self-Paced Learning A learning environment where learners can move through content at their own pace, without strict time constraints. Storyboarding A visual planning tool that outlines the structure, sequence, and flow of an instructional design project, often used to map out eLearning courses. Summative Assessment Assessments conducted at the end of a course or instructional period to evaluate overall learner achievement or mastery of the material. Synchronous Learning Learning that occurs in real-time, with learners and instructors interacting simultaneously, either in person or virtually (e.g., live webinars, classrooms). Task Analysis The process of breaking down tasks into smaller, manageable steps to identify the skills and knowledge required for learners to successfully complete them. Universal Design for Learning (UDL) An educational framework that aims to provide all learners with equal opportunities by accommodating various learning styles and abilities. User Experience (UX) The overall experience of the learner when interacting with course materials, interfaces, or educational platforms. UX is critical to ensure ease of use and accessibility in instructional design.

Constructivism A learning theory that suggests learners construct their own understanding and knowledge of the world, through experiencing things and reflecting on those experiences. Courseware The instructional materials or software developed for use in an educational course. Curriculum A structured set of educational content, lessons, and objectives that form the basis of a course or series of courses.
