Last week Giacomo Zecchini was one of two community speakers to present at Google's Search Central Live 2024 in Zurich. The research topic of choice was Similarity. Similarity can mean different things to different teams: 1. Designer = Visual 2. Copywriter = Text The talk was focused on design. Normally with visual similarity it’s possible to compare two images side-by-side using pixel-by-pixel comparison, structural similarity index or feature based matching. This is computationally intensive and very costly. Instead, our research focused on using the layout tree information to convert HTML elements into simpler boxes where we could compare the coordinates and dimensions for similarity. This approach yielded a huge reduction in computation, cost and time. A link to the full presentation can be found in the comments.

I wish the talk was little bit longer 🥲it was so easy to understand what is visual similarity with the little and simple squares!! Thanks for the presentation at the event 🤗
