What distinguishes coaching from other problem-solving conversations? A coach will explore what you want to change? Help you describe your Why? Discern your current perspective? Identify assumptions and beliefs limiting your thought process, and the perceived problems you want to resolve. Marcia Reynolds says it well, a coach explores: "the person's perspective to expand their stories so more answers and actions come into view?....Coaching expands the context so people understand the situation beyond what they think they know...the lightbulb pops on as creative insights comes into view." If you haven't explored coaching yet, International Coaching Week is next week and there are several opportunities to learn more about coaching. Here are just two in the Edmonton area: CHOOSE COACHING, ICF Edmonton Chapter Hosted by Kelly Johnson, ICF President & Executive Coach https://lnkd.in/gPTtRrYU Join my 30 minute interview with Haesun Moon Phd, Executive Coach, Communication Expert and Author of Coaching a-z. Coaching is a life-long journey of professional learning and personal development. That is why it was such a treat to join the International Coaching Federation's International Coaching Week! It was great opportunity to learn from other professionals in the field, coming from different backgrounds but answering the same calling. I also made a whole bunch of new connections and saw familiar faces - hi, you guys! Coaching can be a lonely profession. It is easy to stagnate and feel isolated. Same with being let go from work or starting our own business, they can feel equally lonely and depressing. In those circumstances it is important to remind ourselves that we are not alone and we are always in control of our own behavior: ◾ Reach out to others who have been through or are in the same situation. ◾ Join a community with shared interests / challenges. There are some great communities here on LinkedIn, e.g. Amir Satvat’s page if you have recently been displaced, or the #ICF for coaching practitioners. A burden shared is a burden halved! And we continue our journey of professional learning and personal development... together. #personaldevelopment #coaching

Calling All Coaches: If you plan to attend Edmonton ICF Chapter's first Book Club Conversation: Coaching a-z by Haesun [hey-sun] Moon April 17th, here's the link to register: https://lnkd.in/divvzyfa And here are two questions to support your reading over the coming weeks: * What chapter felt like it was written specifically for you? Why? * What did you notice about yourself as you did the reflection exercises... that was a bit of a surprise? * What assumptions, rules, or policies have you created for yourself around coaching? Are they supporting, or limiting growth for you and/or your clients? Excited for the conversation ahead. #coaching #growth #conversation

We often encounter misconceptions about coaching. So, what is coaching, really? Coaching is a collaborative journey designed to help people grow personally and professionally. It focuses on open dialogue and exploration—enabling delegates to think creatively, test ideas, and maximise their strengths. Unlike therapy or counselling, coaching is forward looking and goal driven. It’s also distinct from mentoring, where the mentor typically shares their experiences. At C4C, our coaching is built on trust, confidentiality, and ethical standards set by leading bodies like the EMCC Global. What does coaching mean to you? In Jan 2024 Erica Goos and Mădălina Rădulescu paired up to offer monthly Group Coaching SuperVision in collaboration with ICF Washington State (ICFWA) chapter. Inga Bielińska, MCC, ESIA, EIA, ITCA, ACTC, MA and myself joined them a month after that (thank you Erica and Madalina for including us). #Coaching #Supervision is a safe space for #reflective #learning. One of the important needs for SuperVision that I have personally felt is of self-care and restoration of energy. Working with clients can be emotionally draining, mentally fatiguing. Most of the time we may not even recognise this or if we do, not give it any importance. I feel it is important to replenish ourselves as coaches so we can best serve our clients and their eco systems. If you have had similar experiences, do come and join us and find out for yourself the possibilities of coaching supervision, this month on Tuesday, 25th June, 8:00 AM - 9:30 AM Pacific Time Zone. Professional development is really important to me. This week I begin my 3 month journey with my mentor coach (yes, coaches have coaches too) in advance of my reaccreditation as an UK ICF coach. This process is a part of the commitment and ethics we sign up to, ensuring the best quality coaching for our own clients. And how lovely to receive this bundle of treats in the post today to welcome me to the program! #coaching #teamcoach #leadershipcoach

It is International Coaching Week #ICW2024 and this weeklong celebration is a chance for us to inform, share and inspire you. Coaching is still a relatively new tool and one that has traditionally been reserved for senior professionals going through a transition like a big promotion, or bad behaviours that need to be straightened out. Thankfully, the profession has moved on and coaching is accessible to anyone. Just like in sports, if you need to run faster, jump higher, break free of limiting beliefs like "I just can't do it", a Coach will help you do that. We need help in general life too. 💡 So let's get back to basics, what is coaching anyway? It is not mentoring, and is not a therapy. A professional coach is trained to help you get to where you want to be. If someone tells you what to do, it is not as meaningful as coming up with the solutions yourself. A coach will ask questions and reflect back based on what you have said. They pay attention to the words you say, the way you express yourself and what is not being said to help raise self-awareness, set goals and overcome barriers. It's a powerful tool that is an investment in you and your future. Look out for more posts this week across our socials and feel free to reach out with any questions. #coaching #coacheducation #coachingskills
