Upside Foods Sues Florida Over Cultivated Meat Ban. Upside Foods has filed a lawsuit challenging Florida's ban on cultivated meat, arguing that it violates the Constitution and restricts consumer choice. This bold move highlights the critical issue of protecting innovation and the rights of consumers to choose their food. "The government has no right to tell consumers who want to try cultivated meat that they’re not allowed to," says Paul Sherman of the Institute for Justice. This law isn't about safety—it's about stifling innovation and protecting entrenched interests at the expense of consumer choice. We stand with Upside Foods in advocating for food innovation and the freedom to choose what we eat. Starting today, cultivated chicken is officially BANNED in Alabama. 🚫 Because we’re the curious sort, we explored some of Alabama’s other active bans to check out the company we’ll be in. Turns out, many are just as cluckin’ ridiculous as the one for cultivated meat, which takes away Alabamians’ free choice to eat a delicious, FDA & USDA-approved meat offering a more humane and sustainable option. Legislation like this continues to limit choices and stifle innovation. We believe it’s about providing MORE choices for consumers — complementing, not competing. #CultivatedMeat #FoodInnovation #UPSIDEFoods

🚫 Cultivated meat bans are paternalistic and backwards, but they may also be illegal. 🍗 UPSIDE Foods have filed a lawsuit against the state of Florida alleging that the ban: ⚖️ 1. Violates the constitution’s prohibition of protectionist measures favoring in-state businesses 👩⚖️ 2. Violates the commerce clause which protects interstate commerce 👏 Way to go, UPSIDE Foods! https://lnkd.in/gZ5szT2a #cultivatedmeat #cultivatedmeatban #cellculture #altprotein #alternativeprotein #meat

🍽️⚖️ Florida is facing a lawsuit over its law banning cultivated meat, but this raises an important question: why ban something that isn’t commercially available yet and poses no food safety issues? 🧐 Cellular ag isn't scalable, and it doesn't offer clear consumer drivers like being healthier, tastier, or cheaper. While consumers are curious, they’re not actively seeking it out. Without real safety concerns from the FDA or USDA, it’s puzzling to see such a law take shape. What’s the real motivation behind this? 🌱🤔 Follow Culinary Tides, Inc. and subscribe to our YouTube channel and Suzy Badaracco on Instagram for more insights. #CulinaryTides #SuzyBadaracco #CultivatedMeat #FoodTech #FoodLaw #ConsumerTrends #CellularAgriculture Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eRiBUFvE

🚨FOOD INDUSTRY NEWS🚨 Iowa governor - Kim Reynolds - has signed a bill that restricts the labelling of meat and egg alternatives, as well as excludes them from federal food assistance programmes. Under the law, anyone misbranding “fabricated egg products” or a plant-based, cultivated or insect protein faces a fine of up to $500, with each day that the violation occurs constituting a separate offence (the maximum limit for the penalty is $10,000). 🐔 #plantbased #meatalternatives #iowa #foodindustry #newsletter

Did you know that 70% of the eggs we eat are free range, but only 3.5% of the 120 million chickens consumed in the UK are reared in free range systems and less than 1% on organic farms. Fast-growing chickens are selectively bred to reach slaughter weight in 5 – 6 weeks. And for a 1.5kg chicken we pay typically £3.53. About the price of a Starbucks’ latte. Isn't shocking the value we put on a coffee yet we wouldn't pay a proper price for ethically reared animals? No wonder coffee is known as black gold! Top that with the fact that almost 86 million whole chickens are simply thrown away every year as food waste, alongside the growing environmental damage being done by intensive poultry farms and you can see the issue. We believe that eating chicken every day isn't the answer - we believe that eating less meat is the answer, but making sure the meat we do choose to eat is properly reared. We are proud to work with Keith Wickett who has supplied all our free range Cornish chicken from his farm near Bude since we opened in 2010. You can order our amazing free range chicken for delivery to your door anywhere in the UK from our website or over the phone 01872 211533. https://hubs.ly/Q02GBDPR0 #freerangechicken #foodwaste #cornishchicken #eatlessmeat #cornishfood #cornishfoodbox #buylocal #buycornish #freerange #freerangefood

Pet food brand Meatly has become the first European company to receive regulatory approval for selling cultivated meat for pet food in the UK. Meatly's production facility has been approved to produce and handle cultivated chicken. The company worked closely with FSA, DEFRA and APHA to ensure compliance, with extensive safety testing conducted on its cultivated chicken product. CEO Owen Ensor has expressed pride in this achievement, stating, "we are proving that there is a safe and low-capital way to rapidly bring cultivated meat to market." Meatly plans to launch its first samples this year, with a focus on cost reduction and scaling production to industrial volumes within the next three years. #CultivatedMeat #PetFood #Sustainability #Innovation #Foodnews
