🍽️⚖️ Florida is facing a lawsuit over its law banning cultivated meat, but this raises an important question: why ban something that isn’t commercially available yet and poses no food safety issues? 🧐 Cellular ag isn't scalable, and it doesn't offer clear consumer drivers like being healthier, tastier, or cheaper. While consumers are curious, they’re not actively seeking it out. Without real safety concerns from the FDA or USDA, it’s puzzling to see such a law take shape. What’s the real motivation behind this? 🌱🤔 Follow Culinary Tides, Inc. and subscribe to our YouTube channel and Suzy Badaracco on Instagram for more insights. #CulinaryTides #SuzyBadaracco #CultivatedMeat #FoodTech #FoodLaw #ConsumerTrends #CellularAgriculture Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eRiBUFvE

Starting today, cultivated chicken is officially BANNED in Alabama. 🚫 Because we’re the curious sort, we explored some of Alabama’s other active bans to check out the company we’ll be in. Turns out, many are just as cluckin’ ridiculous as the one for cultivated meat, which takes away Alabamians’ free choice to eat a delicious, FDA & USDA-approved meat offering a more humane and sustainable option. Legislation like this continues to limit choices and stifle innovation. We believe it’s about providing MORE choices for consumers — complementing, not competing. #CultivatedMeat #FoodInnovation #UPSIDEFoods

#Labeling meat alternatives is the focus of an Arizona bill, but its opponents complain the bill is too broad (Quotes from Cronkite News, April 17, 2024) Amidst the growing trend of laboratory-created meat and plant-derived food substitutes, a legislative proposal has been put forward by Arizona Representative Quang Nguyen from Prescott Valley. This bill aims to establish more rigorous standards for the marketing and identification of these innovative food products. The intent is to ensure clarity and accuracy in how these items are presented to consumers. #meatalternatives #plantbasedfood ** https://lnkd.in/dpzgEbzG **

Upside Foods Sues Florida Over Cultivated Meat Ban. Upside Foods has filed a lawsuit challenging Florida's ban on cultivated meat, arguing that it violates the Constitution and restricts consumer choice. This bold move highlights the critical issue of protecting innovation and the rights of consumers to choose their food. "The government has no right to tell consumers who want to try cultivated meat that they’re not allowed to," says Paul Sherman of the Institute for Justice. This law isn't about safety—it's about stifling innovation and protecting entrenched interests at the expense of consumer choice. We stand with Upside Foods in advocating for food innovation and the freedom to choose what we eat. Last month we were talking about the viability for ‘cultivated’ meat entering the UK food chain (catch up here if you missed it https://lnkd.in/gWW-bhAZ ), but have we now moved a step closer? It’s been widely reported that London start-up Meatly, has developed the world’s first lab-grown cat food – with chicken as a source of protein. According to The Grocer, the “cruelty-free chicken” was created in collaboration with the company’s first brand partner, Omni, which focuses on creating novel proteins. Meatly says that 20% of meat is currently used to feed our pets – and they have a solution that’s kinder, more sustainable and just as nutritious and delicious! With owners turning to quality products, and a nutrition led approach to feeding their pets, is this indicative of things to come for our food too? https://lnkd.in/gbuDt6VU #culivatedmeat #labgrown #futurefood #foodtechnology

"known as the Truth in Food Labeling Act, restricting language that can be used on cell-based meats labels, plant-based protein, and 'analogue products,'. goes into effect 90 days from its passage, awaiting Governor's signature; amends Code to redefine 'misbranded' food labeling, expanded to: - offered for sale under the name of another food - If imitation, unless it states 'imitation' immediately after the food name imitated - If an analogue of meat, poultry, egg or fish, unless immediately before product name it states: 'analogue,' 'meatless,' 'plant-based,' 'made from plants,' or similar qualifying term/disclaimer to clearly communicate content. The bill names and defines 'analogues' and 'cell-cultured products' as its targets." #FoodLabeling #FoodLabelling #Vegan #PlantBased
