🌍 Sustainable Spotlight Friday #4 Environmental and Social Initiatives at Waregem Koerse 🐎 For our last Sustainable Spotlight Friday, we shine a spotlight on Waregem Koerse, one of the oldest events in Belgium. For its 2023 edition, Waregem Koerse set ambitious sustainable goals and adopted several initiatives to reach them. Let’s dive into two of these projects: • Environmental innovation: Partnering with Van Poucke Rental led to the adoption of 100% vacuum toilets, up from 50% in 2022. This change alone resulted in a significant 90% reduction in water usage for toilet facilities compared to traditional toilets. • Social impact: Under the guidance of Green Panther - Sustainable Events Consultancy and with key contributions from Bram Vandewalle, the event introduced the horse race 4Brain to raise awareness and support for brain disease research. The race gained national attention as it was broadcast live, showcasing how sports events can effectively combine excitement with meaningful social causes. At Circular Unity, we applaud Waregem Koerse for their dedication to both environmental sustainability and social responsibility. Their comprehensive efforts serve as a powerful example of how events can drive sustainable progress and create meaningful community impacts. Thank you for following our Sustainable Spotlight Friday series in celebration of Earth Month 💙 #CircularUnity #Sustainability #ClimateAction #WaregemKoerse #SustainableInnovation

The oikos Graz community wishes you a happy Easter and a wonderful time with your loved ones! 🥰👥💙 Yesterday marked the International Day of Zero Waste ♻️. Did you know that households, small businesses, and public service providers generate between 2.1 and 2.3 billion tons of municipal waste every year - from packaging and electronics to plastics and food? 😰 However, global waste management services are ill-equipped to cope, with 2.7 billion people lacking access to solid waste collection and only 61 to 62 percent of municipal solid waste being disposed of in controlled facilities. This is an urgent call for action to tackle the waste crisis. 📢 ♻️ We kindly ask you to pay attention to some aspects we are providing you with. 👀 💡 Here are a few simple tips for celebrating an eco-friendly Easter and what you can do these days if you don't have any inspiration: 1️⃣ Eat less or no meat at all 🥗 2️⃣ Opt for organic products for your Easter snacks. Organic is not only beneficial for the environment but also for people and animals 🐰🌿 3️⃣ It is a time we spend with our families and friends. Look together for local events or campaigns dealing with environmental protection and sustainability and actively participate in them. 🌍👨👩👧👦👥💚 For example, look at our sustainability program which we prepared for you from April 8th to April 14th, 2024, in our feed. 🌱 🗓️ 4️⃣ Spend time in nature. Take a walk, hike, or picnic outdoors, enjoy and connect with your surroundings. 🏞️ 🌳🚶♂️🥾☀️ 5️⃣ Also use the holidays to inform yourself and your family about sustainability issues and discuss them together. 📚🌱💬 🔗 📖 Sources: https://lnkd.in/gi8tuenZ https://lnkd.in/dFqVHWrj (DE) #HappyEaster #EcoFriendlyEaster #ZeroWaste #InternationalDayofZeroWaste #Sustainability #EcoTips #CommunityEngagement #SustainableLiving #NatureConnection #FamilyTime #LocalEvents #oikos #graz #oikosgraz #oikosworld #SustainabilityWeek2024 #SeedtheFuture #informative #Discussion #Education #beinformed #getinvolved #makeadifference

World-famous Oktoberfest in Munich is in full swing! The City is proud, that it is not only the largest, but one of the most ecologically compatible folk festival. A lot has happened since 1991, when regulations on waste reduction were included in the Oktoberfest's operating regulations for the first time. The Oktoberfest can now be seen as a role model for other major events, as the LET'S GO CIRCULAR! partners agreed on last year. During our first transnational meeting in Munich, the partners were granted some insights: 🥨 The measures range from reducing the amount of waste and water consumption, to offering organic delicacies and regional products, to "eco-points". 🍺 Many Oktoberfest businesses took part in the environmental consulting and climate protection programme ÖKOPROFIT (ECOPROFIT) Munich. 🍽 The two pillars of the waste prevention concept are the ban on disposable crockery and the strict separation of waste. And in some tents, resource-saving grey water utilisation systems are in use. First Stop 💚 First Step Every journey toward change begins with a first step, and at First Stop, we're committed to taking those steps toward more sustainable practices. We know that sustainability isn't just a buzzword — it's essential. But we also understand that real transformation takes time, effort, and investment. That's why we're starting with #firststeps. One of the ways we're making an impact is through an initiative we're really excited about: First Stop Honey, launching this autumn 🍯🍂 It might not be every day that you hear tyres and honey mentioned in the same breath, but our Finnish colleagues at First Stop Suomi are leading the way in sustainability by supporting biodiversity with their own beehives. Bees are pollinating 80% of the world's flowers. By maintaining their own beehives, First Stop is making great effort to protect and nurture nature's biodiversity. Each hive can produce 25-30 kg of honey annually—enough to create 250 gifts of 125 g each 🐝. With the first two Finnish beehives already buzzing, this is just the start of our journey. We're proud to support these initiatives and look forward to seeing where our First Steps will lead us next! 📸 by Korpikuusikon Hunaja Oy

🌿✨ Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending the first-ever SCALE Green event in London. A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved for creating such a welcoming atmosphere and for the incredibly thought-provoking discussions. It was a pleasure to meet so many innovators from the short-term rental sector who are passionate about sustainability. In the afternoon, I had the opportunity to pitch our Composty products to the attendees, and the response was overwhelmingly positive. Many expressed interest in integrating our compostable sponges and cloths into their properties, excited by how these products reduce waste and emissions while enhancing the guest experience. Our famous 'Pop-Up' sponges particularly caught the eye, adding a unique touch to everyday cleaning tasks that guests absolutely love. The event was filled with insightful talks, including: Bob Garner ⓥ🌳 and Nikki Mattei on the importance of having eco-friendly stays. Graham Donoghue discussing profit through sustainable practices. Dale Smith, Katy Davies, Rachel Parsons, and Vanessa de Souza Lage offering strategies on community involvement, guiding owners, and the benefits of sustainability certifications. 🚀 Special shoutout to the innovative pitches from companies like Krystal and Minut, driving the future of sustainable operations. 🌱 The event itself practiced what it preached — from vegan catering to digital guides and using recycled materials. In an era where eco-consciousness is more than a trend, it’s essential for businesses, especially in hospitality, to demonstrate sustainable practices. Our plastic-free products not only support environmental stewardship but also elevate your brand, showing potential guests that you're committed to a greener future. Thank you once again to the Scale Green community for such a fabulous experience! Let's continue to innovate and lead the way in sustainability. 💚 If you’re curious about how Composty can help your property stand out and appeal to eco-conscious guests, feel free to reach. http://b2b.composty.earth #str #shorttermrentals #rentals #sustainability #scalegreen
