The oikos Graz community wishes you a happy Easter and a wonderful time with your loved ones! 🥰👥💙 Yesterday marked the International Day of Zero Waste ♻️. Did you know that households, small businesses, and public service providers generate between 2.1 and 2.3 billion tons of municipal waste every year - from packaging and electronics to plastics and food? 😰 However, global waste management services are ill-equipped to cope, with 2.7 billion people lacking access to solid waste collection and only 61 to 62 percent of municipal solid waste being disposed of in controlled facilities. This is an urgent call for action to tackle the waste crisis. 📢 ♻️ We kindly ask you to pay attention to some aspects we are providing you with. 👀 💡 Here are a few simple tips for celebrating an eco-friendly Easter and what you can do these days if you don't have any inspiration: 1️⃣ Eat less or no meat at all 🥗 2️⃣ Opt for organic products for your Easter snacks. Organic is not only beneficial for the environment but also for people and animals 🐰🌿 3️⃣ It is a time we spend with our families and friends. Look together for local events or campaigns dealing with environmental protection and sustainability and actively participate in them. 🌍👨👩👧👦👥💚 For example, look at our sustainability program which we prepared for you from April 8th to April 14th, 2024, in our feed. 🌱 🗓️ 4️⃣ Spend time in nature. Take a walk, hike, or picnic outdoors, enjoy and connect with your surroundings. 🏞️ 🌳🚶♂️🥾☀️ 5️⃣ Also use the holidays to inform yourself and your family about sustainability issues and discuss them together. 📚🌱💬 🔗 📖 Sources: https://lnkd.in/gi8tuenZ https://lnkd.in/dFqVHWrj (DE) #HappyEaster #EcoFriendlyEaster #ZeroWaste #InternationalDayofZeroWaste #Sustainability #EcoTips #CommunityEngagement #SustainableLiving #NatureConnection #FamilyTime #LocalEvents #oikos #graz #oikosgraz #oikosworld #SustainabilityWeek2024 #SeedtheFuture #informative #Discussion #Education #beinformed #getinvolved #makeadifference

🌳✨ Planting the Seeds of Change with Almighty Tree Switzerland ✨🌳 This autumn, I had the distinct pleasure of joining Almighty Tree Switzerland to plant trees in Canton #Aargau, a meaningful initiative made possible by VE Refinery ’s commitment to sustainability, sine a percentage of all online sales from ve-refinery.ch is donated to offset the carbon footprint of delivering our luxurious non-alcoholic drinks—and this was my chance to see those contributions come to life. It was an amazing experience. Together with my husband, we worked side by side to plant trees alongside an incredible mix of individuals—adults, families, and children—who all shared a passion for protecting our forests and giving back to the planet. We learned so much from the forest ranger about the devastating impact of global warming and invasive fungal diseases from overseas that are destroying local forests. These conversations were a sobering reminder of the delicate balance of our ecosystems and the urgent need for collective action. But it wasn’t all grim. Spending time in the forest reminded me of the emotional and mental benefits of connecting with nature. There’s something undeniably grounding about getting your hands dirty, breathing in the fresh air, and knowing you’re contributing to a healthier planet for future generations. We also explored the concept of biodiversity and the incredible work that Almighty Tree does to restore balance in Switzerland’s forests. As a business owner, it’s important to me that VE Refinery not only provides natural, luxurious, alcohol-free alternatives but also operates with a deep respect for the environment. Every tree planted reminded me of the power of small actions adding up to big change. A heartfelt thank you to Almighty Tree Switzerland for organizing such an inspiring day and for their tireless work to combat climate change. And to our VE Refinery customers—thank you for supporting a brand that values sustainability. Together, we’re making a difference, one bottle (and tree!) at a time. If you’re interested in learning more about this initiative or how you can get involved, check out Almighty Tree Switzerland and the wonderful work they’re doing. 🌿 Almighty Tree #Sustainability #AlmightyTreeSwitzerland #CarbonOffset #Biodiversity #ForestRestoration #MindfulLiving #VERefinery https://buff.ly/3Zal3Vv

TARABA GREEN LEGACY AWAIT- One Tree at a Time Taraba state, the "Nature's Gift to the Nation," is blessed with landscapes with abundant natural resources which sustained the people of the state for generations, providing food, water and other things, However, our ever-growing population and unsustainable ways of managing these God's giving resources threaten this very nature's gift.leading to many challenges that required immediate multi track intervention. The present government under the leadership of governor Agbu kefas saw the need for sustainability of the natural resources and came up with measures that when followed, will help in regaining our lost biodiversity. Well, i want to use this medium to thank his excellency for this timely inniative, yet am suggesting another simple yet impactful initiative, that if adopted will add to the various measures taken, one, making cooking gas available and affordable to people, and secondly, mandate each taraban to at least plant from 1- 10 trees per year, especiallyespecially in areas where the environmental challenges of frees cutting become more apparent, this can serve a not only a symbolic gesture alone, but also a conscious effort to repay the debt we owe to nature and secure a better greener future for our next generations. Trees have significant role in our lifes, mitigating the effects of greenhouse gases and climate change,Preserving our biodiversity, ensuring a healthy ecosystem, health soil, erosion control, improving fertility for a sustainable agriculture and ensuring a sustained water availability. While, apart from the state government efforts, our individual role is crucial at this time, it also need a greater collective and collaborative support. We urge the State Government to In addition band on charcoal, to enact policies that will promote tree planting in all the 16 local governments in the state, Establishe a subsidized nurseries and create awareness campaigns through the religious and traditional groups and especially during cultural festivals, such as wonyo fishing festival, phebe cultural festival, mumuye yam festival, and the rest and by turning all the festival areas a reference for greener taraba while encourage community participation in planting trees on parsonal lands. Let us join hands and support Governor Agbo kefas and general Ali faransa to continue with this journey towards a greener Taraba state. Our slogan awaits, one tree at a time for every adult in taraba state. Thank you, Isa adamu(contributor)

On track for our overall goal of planting 1 million 🌲🌳in 2030, the last piece into the puzzle of our 2024 commitment to get to 100,000 trees this year comes from #ZentivaFrance, turning Black Friday Green! Located in Saint-Martin-Sepert, their reforestation activity converts former agricultural land into a resilient forest, with specific biodiversity protection measures to minimize human impact. 🍁 The red oak was chosen for its adaptability, with a total of 1,879 trees planted and sustainably managed over 1.7 hectares, resulting in: ✅ improved local biodiversity through the creation of a new forest habitat ✅ capture of 559 tons of CO² to combat climate change ✅ socio-economic development of the region, offering new opportunities for sustainable forest management ✨ A big thank you to our partners in France, EcoTree France and our French squad for helping us make a difference! Speaking of partners, it must be said that we couldn’t achieve our tree-planting goals without them, since they are the ones who ensure our investment in biodiversity is sustainable. They help us respect the environment, maintain regular monitoring, and guarantee the health and vitality of the emerging forests, promoting resilience to climactic hazards and disease 💚. _ _ _ In France, we partner with #EcoTreeFrance, in the Czech Republic, with Home for Trees and Sázíme stromy, in Poland with Fundacja Aeris Futuro, in Slovakia we work with Zasaď Strom, in Romania with the Foundation Conservation CARPATHIA, and in India with the Forest Creators. We incredibly appreciate your joining our efforts to take care of people, partners and our planet. #ZentivaCares #GreenFriday2024 #Sustainability #Biodiversity #Reforestation #CSR #EnvironmentalCommitment #Partnership

The decline of biological diversity is a global crisis. How many organisations are looking at biodiversity within their strategy, becoming biodiversity positive and having targets around biodiversity? Compare this number to those with carbon reduction targets, and you will probably find there aren't as many. Both are hugely important for all to mitigate against, but biodiversity needs to be pushed up the agenda. Lyreco has been working to reduce its impact on our local biodiversity for years with having onsite bee aperies, bird, bug bat and hedgehog homes and our very own eco garden with locally seeded wildflowers. However, Lyreco are now starting a journey to look at how we can support biodiversity nationally. We are starting to work with suppliers and customers to raise awareness of this issue and help to drive solutions. Joining the UK Business & Biodiversity Forum Nature Positive working group is the next for Lyreco to learn from those pushing this topic as well as see if we can support any members on their journey. #biodiversity #naturepositive
Helping bring biodiversity to the forefront of UK business 🌱 Nature is under threat. The continued loss of biodiversity represents a major risk to economic growth and sustainable livelihoods. Yet this also represents an opportunity for business innovation and change. Lyreco UK & Ireland are proud to have joined the UK Business & Biodiversity Forum (UKBBF) Nature Positive Working Group. The UKBBF's mission is to take action to mainstream biodiversity into the core of UK business decision making & activities. Andrew Bryers, Head of Sustainability Lyreco UK & Ireland, had this to say: “Reducing our impact on biodiversity and becoming a Nature Positive organisation is part of one of our key Lyreco Goodness sustainability objectives, Reducing our Global Impact. Lyreco as already signed The Nature Positive Business Pledge, committing us to halt and reverse our impact on nature. Joining the UKBBF Nature Positive Working Group helps Lyreco to collaborate in this area and take action to become Nature Positive.” Tom Butterworth, UKBBF Director, commented: “It’s great that Lyreco has joined the UKBBF Nature Positive Working Group to provide an insight into what they are doing to reduce their impact and enhance biodiversity as well as how they engage with their supply chain in this critical area.’ Tom Butterworth, UKBBF Director. The next generation will inherit what we will all leave behind so let’s celebrate Earth Day and remember to champion and support our food producers, especially our farmers and fishermen, because with them, not only will we have food to eat, but they will also continue to save our soil and seas. All my books including For The Love Of The Land, For The Love Of The Sea, their sequels and Islands In A Common Sea feature sustainable, conservation, emerging green technologies, regenerative agriculture and innovative thinking that can help restore the world’s eco systems. Regenerative or Conservation agriculture is at the forefront of many British farmers, and farmers from all around the world, such as some of those featured in For The Love Of The Land, For The Love Of The Land II, and Islands In A Common Sea. Practices such as no till farming and cover cropping are reducing erosion and water pollution, and are in turn, producing healthier soils. It’s not nature versus nurture anymore; it’s all about nurturing our nature. For The Love Of The Sea series and also Islands In A Common Sea feature inspiring and progressive stories about sustainability and conservation from people who really care about our planet. And there is no one who cares more deeply about the world than the very people who not only produce highly nutritious food for us, but those who also look after our immediate environments. #earthday #earthday2024

First Stop 💚 First Step Every journey toward change begins with a first step, and at First Stop, we're committed to taking those steps toward more sustainable practices. We know that sustainability isn't just a buzzword — it's essential. But we also understand that real transformation takes time, effort, and investment. That's why we're starting with #firststeps. One of the ways we're making an impact is through an initiative we're really excited about: First Stop Honey, launching this autumn 🍯🍂 It might not be every day that you hear tyres and honey mentioned in the same breath, but our Finnish colleagues at First Stop Suomi are leading the way in sustainability by supporting biodiversity with their own beehives. Bees are pollinating 80% of the world's flowers. By maintaining their own beehives, First Stop is making great effort to protect and nurture nature's biodiversity. Each hive can produce 25-30 kg of honey annually—enough to create 250 gifts of 125 g each 🐝. With the first two Finnish beehives already buzzing, this is just the start of our journey. We're proud to support these initiatives and look forward to seeing where our First Steps will lead us next! 📸 by Korpikuusikon Hunaja Oy
