🌍 Sustainable Spotlight Friday #4 Environmental and Social Initiatives at Waregem Koerse 🐎 For our last Sustainable Spotlight Friday, we shine a spotlight on Waregem Koerse, one of the oldest events in Belgium. For its 2023 edition, Waregem Koerse set ambitious sustainable goals and adopted several initiatives to reach them. Let’s dive into two of these projects: • Environmental innovation: Partnering with Van Poucke Rental led to the adoption of 100% vacuum toilets, up from 50% in 2022. This change alone resulted in a significant 90% reduction in water usage for toilet facilities compared to traditional toilets. • Social impact: Under the guidance of Green Panther - Sustainable Events Consultancy and with key contributions from Bram Vandewalle, the event introduced the horse race 4Brain to raise awareness and support for brain disease research. The race gained national attention as it was broadcast live, showcasing how sports events can effectively combine excitement with meaningful social causes. At Circular Unity, we applaud Waregem Koerse for their dedication to both environmental sustainability and social responsibility. Their comprehensive efforts serve as a powerful example of how events can drive sustainable progress and create meaningful community impacts. Thank you for following our Sustainable Spotlight Friday series in celebration of Earth Month 💙 #CircularUnity #Sustainability #ClimateAction #WaregemKoerse #SustainableInnovation

It's time for eco-action every month. Ditch the one-and-done mentality – let's make every month a celebration of our planet. While June shines a special spotlight with World Environment Day, here's how we can be an eco-warrior all year round. 👉Let's mark this global event by participating in local clean-up drives, attending educational workshops, or even starting your own sustainability challenge at your office/community. 👉Social media is a great platform to raise awareness. Share eco-friendly tips, support sustainable businesses. 👉Go for a hike, bike ride, or camping trip. Explore local parks and nature reserves, appreciating the beauty of the natural world. 👉Organize a "plogging" event – jogging while picking up litter – for a fun and impactful activity. 👉Plant your own little piece of nature. Start a vegetable garden, plant herbs on your balcony, or create a pollinator-friendly flower bed. 👉Composting kitchen scraps and using natural fertilizers encourages a thriving, eco-friendly garden. 👉June is a great time to declutter and give old items a new life. Organize a swap party with friends or donate unwanted items to charity shops. 👉 Look for ways to upcycle or repurpose household items before discarding them. Challenge yourself to use reusable bags, water bottles, and coffee mugs throughout the month. 👉Do your research and choose brands committed to ethical manufacturing, eco-friendly packaging, and sustainable practices. 👉 Look for local farmers markets to source fresh, seasonal produce, reducing your carbon footprint. 👉 Share your eco-friendly journey with friends and family. Encourage them to join you in adopting sustainable practices. Every small step towards sustainability adds up to a significant difference for our planet. What will you do to celebrate this June? Hey folks! 🏞️ Let's chat about one of my favorite subjects: building a community around sustainability. 🌱 Here at the Mavis Institute, we're all about that collective vibe, turning the dream of self-reliant living into a cozy, shared reality. Creating a sustainable community isn't just about growing greens or cutting down on waste—it's about people. We thrive when we share knowledge, pool resources, and support one another on this wild journey toward eco-friendliness. Here are a few tips to get that sustainable community rolling: 1. Start a community garden: Nothing beats bonding over a good ol' patch of shared earth. It's great exercise and a fantastic way to grow fresh food while building strong bonds. 2. Set up a swap meet: Trade your unused items with neighbors. It's an excellent way to recycle, reduce waste, and strengthen those community ties. 3. Host workshops and skill-sharing sessions: Whether it's permaculture, DIY crafts, or cooking classes, teaching and learning with friends is both sustainable and fun! 4. Launch a local sustainability group: Meetup for coffee chats or hikes to brainstorm energy-efficient ideas and eco-friendly projects. Remember, the strength of a sustainable lifestyle lies in the connections we build. Let's make a positive impact together! 🌍 Got any other community-building ideas? Drop 'em in the comments. And don't forget, I stream classes every Tuesday at 9:45 PM ET if you're itching to learn more! #CommunityBuilding #SustainableLiving #EcoFriendlyLife See y'all out there making a difference! 😊

Hello, eco-conscious professionals! As today is World Book Day and we gear up for an exciting month ahead, let's explore some fantastic opportunities to celebrate sustainability, literature, and our beautiful planet. 📚 World Book Day: March 7th Get ready to immerse yourself in the world of literature! World Book Day is just around the corner, and this year, let's give it a sustainable twist. Here's how: Book Swaps: Ever thought about organizing a book swap? It's a fantastic way for us to recycle and share the joy of reading by passing along books we've already enjoyed. Digital Reading: Let's embrace technology and explore e-books and digital platforms. Not only does this save paper, but it also gives us access to a treasure trove of stories at our fingertips. Support Local Libraries: Our community libraries are gems! Borrowing books instead of buying new ones not only saves money but also reduces our carbon footprint. Check out what your local library has to offer: : https://lnkd.in/dRF79_yi 📖 Preserving Old Books Our old books hold stories and memories. Instead of tossing them away, let's consider: Donate: Spread the love of reading by donating old books to local libraries or schools. Let's give these treasures new homes and inspire others to dive into the world of literature. Repurpose: Get crafty and turn old books into unique decor pieces or book-themed crafts. It's a fun way to give new life to our old favorites. Check out these creative ideas for inspiration: https://lnkd.in/d9YBrA-n https://lnkd.in/dbWyyRKz 🌍 Educational Workshops March is also packed with environmental events! Earth Hour on March 23rd: Join the global initiative by WWF (formerly known as World Wildlife Fund) to raise awareness about climate change. Switch off your lights for one hour from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM local time. Let's do our part for the planet! Arbor Day on March 30th: This is a day to celebrate trees and their importance to our environment. Consider planting a tree or participating in tree-planting events in your community. Let's make March a month of sustainable choices, literary adventures, and environmental awareness. Together, we can write a greener story for our world and future generations.

Summer Series: #MyLocalCircularLife Something that many of my LinkedIn connections are unaware of, is that my foray into the #CircularEconomy stems from 20+ years of being active in my small town of #Nesodden (pop. 20,000) working with others in our community to support the better use of our collective resources. I usually post about my local work on facebook, and reserve linkedIn for the global work, but recently as connections and partners from around the world are coming to the #OsloRegion and want to connect in person, I take them on a little tour around Nesodden on electric bikes to see how we and others are putting the CE into practice - so it is time to bridge it all ;) For almost two decades, my husband Dag Reynolds and I have been using our community as a testbed for #CircularInnovation and learning as much about what does NOT WORK, as we do from what DOES WORK!.. We have learned a lot about Food Systems, Libraries of Things, Maritime Cleanups, Procurement, Plastic Pollution, CSAs, Repair Cafes, Electric Bike lending programmes, Makerspaces, Circular Business Models, Products as a Service, Public/Private Partnerships, co-working spaces and more... So over the summer, I thought I would share some of this as a change of pace from the #Global work that I tend to post about on LinkedIn. To kick things off, I am sharing a link to our local NGOs website #Nesoddliv https://nesoddliv.no - which basically translates to "life on the point of the tip" as our community is an amazing peninsula smack dab in the middle of the #OsloFjord. We have a partnership with our municipality to support collaborative efforts to accelerate the Circular Economy transition via a #CircularLearningArena, I will share the concrete ways and case studies on how we do this in the coming weeks :) I would very much like to hear from others about what they do locally. Feel free to use #MyLocalCircularLife on a post and let's learn and be inspired together! Fun Fact: many of my local connections have no idea I work on the Circular Economy globally ;) Oscar Honeyman-Novotny Steinar Dahlen Esther Gilen Nesteren Hasani Odd Fylling Andrew Bennett Ole Andreas Seipajaervi Øyvind Solum Nina Sandberg Tor Lindberg Stefan Kaufman Tijn Tjoelker Audrey Bayens Nicole T Garofano, PhD, AAIP Vesna Lavtizar, PhD Yame Nkgowe Gene Homicki Ken W. 🌍 Leading by Example: Our Team in Action! 🌱 At GreenWand Sustainability Ltd., we’re not just talking about making a difference—we’re actively doing it! Today, we’re excited to share how one of our team members embraced the #Every_Day_I_Pick_Up_One_Litter challenge with dedication. During their day, our team member took the time to pick up litter, proving that even the smallest actions can make a big impact on our environment. This is what being kind to the Earth looks like—making conscious choices to protect our planet, one piece of litter at a time. Let’s all take inspiration from this and commit to doing our part. Whether you're on your morning walk, running errands, or enjoying nature, every bit of litter you pick up makes a difference. Join us in this movement! Together, we can create a cleaner, greener world. #Sustainability #EcoFriendly #GreenWandSustainability #BeKindToTheEarth #Environment #TeamEffort
