In San Diego today and tomorrow. Check out Jason Melbourne speaking on a case study on marketing emissions today, or my discussion on quantifying scope 3 emissions accurately tomorrow.
Pleased to be heading home next month to speak at the Sustainable Brands conference in San Diego. In addition to restocking my supplies of hotsauce, I will be talking about ways companies can start to truly quantify their scope 3 emissions based on meaningul supply-chain information. Demonstrating that measuring emissions with granularity actually enables reductions. Anything less than material/process based emissions measurements are just window-dressings to sustainability and will do nothing to help you reduce emissions. My hometown; Fish tacos's, traffic jams and scope 3 discussions. Can't wait!

🌲Michelle Cliffe from Canopy shares insights on sustainable packaging and forest protection in outdoor retail. 🔑 Key insights on paper packaging sustainability: - Paper packaging isn't always the eco-friendly alternative to plastic - it can harm ancient forests - Only 15% of ancient and endangered forests remain globally - Companies need to rethink their packaging strategies beyond simple plastic-to-paper switches - Patagonia leads by example, using 100% recycled materials and committing to tree-free packaging 💡 Innovative alternatives emerging: - Agricultural waste as tree-fiber replacement - Wheat straw offers sustainable packaging solutions - Alternative materials from sugarcane, beetroot, and hemp - Carbon-capture technology creating fibers "from air" 🔚 The future of sustainable packaging The outdoor industry faces a crucial challenge: balancing product protection with environmental responsibility. As brands seek alternatives to traditional materials, collaboration and investment in innovation will be key to protecting our remaining ancient forests. A very exciting use- or recycling (upcycling ? ) of disposed fishing nets litter. One of the main sources of marine plastic pollution. This should be replicated in scale..
At Kerecis sustainability is the prize, quite literally! Our Aurora Awards Trophies – presented to grand prize winners at the Northern Lights Wound Workshop in Reykjavik – symbolize both achievement in the operating room and our commitment to sustainability! ♻️🌱 The top piece is created from recycled fishing nets and rope collected on shores, helping to clean up our oceans and protect marine life. With a look almost identical to marble, the base is crafted from recycled single-use packaging, upcycling waste into something beautiful and meaningful. We urge you to choose an eco-friendly solution whenever possible, minimize waste, and help protect our planet 🌍

Happy Earth Day 2024! Earth Day is a global event which aims to highlight the importance of protecting the environment. How are you and your business championing sustainability today? At Ashmira Botanica we wholeheartedly embrace a holistic and green approach and are committed to eliminating plastic in all of our products, whilst centering sustainability at the heart of everything we do. With a deep reverence for nature, we have worked alongside a local environmental business to carefully evaluate our practices and minimise our carbon footprint. The Earth Day theme this year is 'Planet vs Plastics'. We thoughtfully package our skincare range in environmentally-friendly alternatives such as aluminium and glass and we formulate in small batches in the UK to minimise our ecological footprint. To further reduce waste, at our warehouse, we reuse shipping boxes for outgoing orders, and buy any new carboard packaging we need locally. We deeply respect the scientific call to transition away from fossil fuels and limit temperature rise to 1.5°C. Sustainable practices and best habits are at the heart of our business, embodied by our dedicated team, but we recognise that there is always more to do and we accept our responsibility to reduce our environmental impact. We will strive to always do better, and we continue to seek official accreditations like ISO14001 or B-Corp status to help us along the way. To remind us why we're doing this, this photo shows the phenomenon of 'crown shyness', a phenomenon sometimes seen in the canopy of a forest, where some species of trees avoid touching eachother. Some theories on why this happens are to maximise photosynthesis in the community of trees, or to avoid disease or injury. 💚

#Sustainability is one of those words that, depending on your perspective, can take on different meanings. After what I heard today at the 6th Quad Sustainability Symposium, it’s a good time to broaden my thinking. From self-dissolving packaging to new processes that turn glass bottles into sand, sustainability is an emerging area for breakthrough innovation - new technology, new label designs, new packaging, all leading to a less-wasteful world. Fascinating to support my colleagues as they spearheaded this important and multi-faceted discussion.
"From a waste standpoint, we have a global problem, but I'm not sure we have a global solution," Smith Lankford, our general managing of Packaging said this morning at our sixth annual Sustainability Symposium which brings together industry leaders, #sustainability experts, and innovative thinkers to do our part in building a more sustainable future. Paul Nowak of GreenBlue Org, Adam Hobler of Nielsen-Massey Vanillas, Jeannie Lord of Pine View Wildlife Rehabilitation & Education Center, and Andrew Hurley, PhD who founded our Package InSight by Quad solution are just a few of the names that have already taken the stage to speak to this year's theme of "Bridging the Gap Between Intention and Impact." Here's to a great rest of the event and a more #sustainable future! Shannon Anderson Jamie McGarry Brandon Ramey

We hope everyone had a great Earth Week! It’s a fantastic opportunity to celebrate our beautiful planet, and reflect on the importance of environmental protection.🌿💡 To celebrate, we challenged all of the Exactus Energy team to minimize food waste by adopting zero-waste cooking practices. Here are some strategies we shared: 🍏 Use up ingredients efficiently - boiling vegetable scraps can make a delicious vegetable stock! 🍏 Get creative with leftovers - you’d be surprised at what you can make! 🍏 Minimize packaging waste when possible - bringing your own produce bags when shopping rather than getting plastic ones can make a big difference. Together, we can make a difference and create a brighter, more sustainable world for all. 🌎💚 How did you all celebrate? Comment down below! ⬇️
