Oil palm cultivation in Papua New Guinea (PNG) offers several benefits, including: 1. Economic Growth: The oil palm industry contributes significantly to PNG's economy by providing employment opportunities, generating income for farmers, and contributing to government revenue through taxes and export earnings. 1. Poverty Alleviation: Smallholder farmers often engage in oil palm cultivation, which helps alleviate poverty by providing them with a stable source of income and improving their livelihoods. 3. Infrastructure Development: Oil palm plantations require infrastructure development, such as roads and processing facilities, which can benefit rural communities by improving access to markets and services. 4. Foreign Exchange Earnings: PNG earns foreign exchange through the export of palm oil and palm oil products, which contributes to the country's balance of payments and overall economic stability. 5. Food Security: Oil palm cultivation can contribute to food security by providing cooking oil and other palm oil products for domestic consumption, reducing the country's reliance on imported oils. Overall, oil palm cultivation in PNG has the potential to drive economic development, alleviate poverty, improve infrastructure, and enhance food security. However, it is essential to manage the industry sustainably to mitigate environmental and social impacts. #oilpalm #benefits #developingcountries #papuanewguinea
Today, our Group Managing Director, Datuk Mohamad Helmy Othman Basha, who is the Chairman of the Malaysian Palm Oil Board, spoke at the 35th Palm & Lauric Oils Price Outlook Conference & Exhibition (POC2024) in Kuala Lumpur. He emphasised the importance of developing countries confronting challenges directly, particularly those within our control. With the global population on the rise, palm oil emerges as a superior oil, essential for meeting the needs of a growing population and various industries. He added that in navigating the complexities of the palm oil industry, unity is paramount. Collaborative efforts involving government bodies, industry players, academic institutions, NGOs, and local communities are essential for success. Together, through shared goals and concerted action, we can drive meaningful progress towards sustainability and responsible growth.

🌊 SALT of the Earth: MEXICO Takes Control 🌊 In a move that has stirred the waters of the salt industry, Mexico has embarked on a strategic maneuver to nationalize Exportadora de Sal SA (ESSA), a leading salt producer. This bold step came after the Mexican government acquired a 49% stake in ESSA from Mitsubishi Corp. for an investment of 1.5 billion pesos ($87.6 millions). 💡 Strategic Implications 💡 This acquisition not only signifies a pivotal shift in ownership but also marks a significant moment in Mexico's approach to its natural resources. ESSA, known for its vast salt flats in Las Coloradas, Yucatan, symbolizes the rich natural heritage of Mexico. This move could potentially reshape the dynamics of the salt industry, not just within the nation but on a global scale. 🌏 Global Perspective 🌏 The nationalization of ESSA raises intriguing questions about the future of international partnerships and the role of government in key industries. With this decision, Mexico sets a precedent for how nations might prioritize sovereignty over natural resources in an era of increasing global interconnection. #SaltIndustry #Mexico #Nationalization #GlobalTrade #NaturalResources

We are back from our trips to our key partners across Peru, Ecuador, and the Philippines! ✈️ Our journey served two main purposes: - introducing our new leadership team and - gaining invaluable insights while forging strong connections along the way. 🇵🇪 In Peru, we explored the lush palm oil plantations and visited an oil mill, witnessing firsthand the dedication and hard work that goes into producing our bio-certified products. 🇪🇨 Our next stop was Ecuador, where we had planned to visit plantations after touring an oil mill in La Concordia. Unfortunately, an unexpected incident cut our visit short (we got robbed), but it only strengthened our resolve to continue supporting our partners in the region. 🇵🇭 The Philippines proved to be our longest and most enriching trip. From bustling Manila to scenic Legaspi and vibrant Davao, we delved into the production processes of Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO), coconut flakes, and banana chips. Each visit left us in awe of the resilience and resourcefulness of our partners, who achieve so much with limited resources and technology. Reflecting on our experiences, it's clear that the dedication and hard work of our partners in these regions are unparalleled. Despite facing challenges, their warmth, kindness, and unwavering hospitality never ceased to amaze us. As we return home, we carry with us a deeper understanding of our supply chain and a renewed appreciation for the people who make it all possible. Here's to forging stronger partnerships and making a positive impact together! 🌱 #GlobalPartnerships #supplychain #NewBeginnings #Organic #sustainability
