We are back from our trips to our key partners across Peru, Ecuador, and the Philippines! ✈️ Our journey served two main purposes: - introducing our new leadership team and - gaining invaluable insights while forging strong connections along the way. 🇵🇪 In Peru, we explored the lush palm oil plantations and visited an oil mill, witnessing firsthand the dedication and hard work that goes into producing our bio-certified products. 🇪🇨 Our next stop was Ecuador, where we had planned to visit plantations after touring an oil mill in La Concordia. Unfortunately, an unexpected incident cut our visit short (we got robbed), but it only strengthened our resolve to continue supporting our partners in the region. 🇵🇭 The Philippines proved to be our longest and most enriching trip. From bustling Manila to scenic Legaspi and vibrant Davao, we delved into the production processes of Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO), coconut flakes, and banana chips. Each visit left us in awe of the resilience and resourcefulness of our partners, who achieve so much with limited resources and technology. Reflecting on our experiences, it's clear that the dedication and hard work of our partners in these regions are unparalleled. Despite facing challenges, their warmth, kindness, and unwavering hospitality never ceased to amaze us. As we return home, we carry with us a deeper understanding of our supply chain and a renewed appreciation for the people who make it all possible. Here's to forging stronger partnerships and making a positive impact together! 🌱 #GlobalPartnerships #supplychain #NewBeginnings #Organic #sustainability

Found this not-so-fun fact about the Philippines recently, and I made sure it came from a valid source. For those who don't know, global rankings and international recognition are such a big deal for Filipinos, and it could be about absolutely anything and we'd still be proud of it—from queens winning beauty pageants to athletes winning the Olympics, or even Filipino singers getting recognized in American Idol. We are so proud when we learn that a celebrity or influencer is of Filipino descent, and we make sure to let everyone know we are related to them in one form or another. In this case, however, I don't think this is something we can be proud of. Yes our country is an archipelago, but that is never an excuse to keep polluting our waters. I know our problem is much more deeply-rooted than just a discipline issue among citizens. Lack of education, government corruption, unstructured waste management systems, and a whole plethora of other challenges all contribute to this No. 1 Ranking that we have found ourselves in. For a country with only 118 million people (yes I used the word ONLY because compared to China, India, or Indonesia, we are not a lot), we are contributing much more plastic waste to the oceans from our rivers than any other country in the world. So much for being proud to be ranked No. 1. We can do better, Philippines. Let's do better.

Ramon Ang’s food and beverage conglomerate San Miguel has loaded up on debt and is remaking itself into an infrastructure giant. For Ang, 70, the pivot is a chance to cement his legacy—reengineering the food and beverage giant into an infrastructure colossus that is literally remaking the Philippines from the bedrock up. Over the next five years, Ang has earmarked capital expenditure of 1.4 trillion pesos, of which 86%, or 1.2 trillion pesos, will be deployed to expand the company’s infrastructure footprint. Oil palm cultivation in Papua New Guinea (PNG) offers several benefits, including: 1. Economic Growth: The oil palm industry contributes significantly to PNG's economy by providing employment opportunities, generating income for farmers, and contributing to government revenue through taxes and export earnings. 1. Poverty Alleviation: Smallholder farmers often engage in oil palm cultivation, which helps alleviate poverty by providing them with a stable source of income and improving their livelihoods. 3. Infrastructure Development: Oil palm plantations require infrastructure development, such as roads and processing facilities, which can benefit rural communities by improving access to markets and services. 4. Foreign Exchange Earnings: PNG earns foreign exchange through the export of palm oil and palm oil products, which contributes to the country's balance of payments and overall economic stability. 5. Food Security: Oil palm cultivation can contribute to food security by providing cooking oil and other palm oil products for domestic consumption, reducing the country's reliance on imported oils. Overall, oil palm cultivation in PNG has the potential to drive economic development, alleviate poverty, improve infrastructure, and enhance food security. However, it is essential to manage the industry sustainably to mitigate environmental and social impacts. #oilpalm #benefits #developingcountries #papuanewguinea
