#ev EMOBILITY ON THE GERMAN POLITICAL AGENDA: WHAT PRIORITIES SHOULD GUIDE THE NEXT GOVERNMENT? Electric mobility in Germany is currently at a decisive stage, marked by challenges arising from the potential dissolution of the “Ampel” coalition and the political uncertainty this generates. This scenario could present a key opportunity for candidates in the upcoming February elections to intensify their efforts towards a sustainable transition. This scenario could present a key opportunity for candidates in the upcoming February elections to intensify their efforts towards a sustainable transition. In this context, experts agree that the next government must establish clear priorities to ensure the progress of electromobility. York Kolb emphasises that economic incentives are crucial to democratise access to electric mobility. These programmes must particularly target middle- and low-income sectors, where the adoption of clean technologies remains a challenge. Furthermore, he adds: “The focus should be on pushing original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to produce affordable EVs.” Without an increase in the supply of electric units at competitive prices, the transition will continue to be slow. full article: https://lnkd.in/dDm2dY7d

💡 I want to elaborate on a question which is as relevant as ever: ➡ What is the potential impact of #electricvehicles on transport emissions in Germany? The #German government abruptly rolled back its subsidy program for battery electric vehicles in December 2023, around a year after it cut back on the environmental bonus given for the purchase of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. In parallel, the federal government remained committed to its target of having 15 million battery-electric vehicles in circulation in Germany by 2030. Growing #EV sales could contribute to the #decarbonization of the country’s transport sector, which is the third-highest polluter behind the energy and industry sectors, and help Germany lower its environmental impact. 📈 I'm excited to share with you our brand new Statista trend report which provides insights on the magnitude of this contribution through two scenarios: 1) The business-as-usual scenario assumes a static market environment without involvement from the federal government or industry stakeholders. 2) The exponential growth scenario, in contrast, assumes further intervention to boost electric vehicle adoption. The report also features a comprehensive overview of the current German electric vehicle market and analyses the factors impacting passenger car emissions. Go straight to the study: ➡ https://lnkd.in/es_Gswtr Which scenario do you think will occur? Is Germany's goal of having 15 million BEVs on the road until 2030 realistic? And will the ban of sales of new engine cars from 2035 be the right way for the EU?

This is exciting to see. The railway presents a huge opportunity to reduce CO2 associated with the transportation of goods and people compared to road vehicles and airplanes. The deal is even sweeter when we can make our trains battery-powered, effectively achieving zero emissions. This is a wonderful achievement by Siemens Mobility, one that underscores the potential for sustainable transportation solutions.
Proud that Siemens Mobility has launched its battery bi-mode train and discontinuous electrification plans (including Rail Charging Converters) today. We show how we can replace Britain's diesel trains and save £3.5 billion and 12 million tonnes of CO2 emissions. https://lnkd.in/ezdEfmFn #TransformTheEveryday

Electromobility is driving Europe's transition to a greener, more thriving future. On December 9th, policymakers will gather to decide whether we stay on track or risk derailing progress. We support Opportunity35 | Seizing Europe's e-Mobility Opportunity, a joint initiative by AVERE - The European Association for Electromobility and ChargeUp Europe. They underline the incredible potential of the EV charging industry, which by 2035 is set to: ✓ Create 222,000 new jobs. ✓ Reach a value of €92 billion, equivalent to the GDP of an EU member state. ✓ Expand from 10 million chargers today to 64 million. My household has gone full #electric with a new BMW bought over the summer. The journey has been only positive so far, but I know it’s not the same for everyone. If you have an hour to spare, the Institute for Government event today "How can the government effectively roll out EV charging infrastructure?" is worth watching. Perhaps you're thinking of buying a new car, or you're interested in the policy debate. A great conversation about the sector’s most pressing challenges and what the new government can do to address them, with Lilian Greenwood MP, Ian Howells (Honda), Bharat Pathania (MBA, MIET, APMP) (Midlands Connect) and Rosa Hodgkin. In no particular order, some of the issues discussed are: 📌 The need to incentivise private and public sector collaboration, particularly by connecting policymaking with the delivery part. Great insight from Midlands Connect here 📌The need for the government to commit to prioritising EVs in the long-term 📌 Removing planning barriers – the Netherlands and Sweden were mentioned as examples of good practice 📌 Improving accessibility across the country and between rural and non-rural areas 📌 Improving perception amongst the general public that switching from diesel to electricity is easy (interoperability is still an issue) and cheaper (costs are still too high, particularly when you charge away from home). 📌 The newly announced industrial strategy was also mentioned in relation to the need to consider a broader ecosystem that includes a domestic supply chain as well as the recycling of batteries. #publicaffairs #industrialstrategy #EV #charging #innovation

Thank God for Germany… In the race for more affordable electric vehicles, Germany is taking a unique approach - betting on hydrogen instead of blindly following competitors from the East. This bold move could reap immense benefits in the future. While the transition may pose short-term challenges, catching up on the accumulated backlog is feasible. Electric vehicles can't fully replace internal combustion vehicles, and concerns over the production of lithium-ion batteries persist. Why pursue a known non-solution? At this year's Hannover Fair, hydrogen took the spotlight, showcasing its potential for climate-neutral mobility. It's a chance to challenge the status quo and embrace a promising alternative. What are your thoughts ? #electricvehicles #BMW #Germany

🚗🔋 Can Policy Damage or Hype the Roll-Out of Electric Vehicles? 🇧🇪✨ As Belgium's political landscape evolves after the recent elections, the future of eMobility policies could be at a critical juncture. With a new federal administration set to form, the impact on our EV sector is a topic of keen interest. EV Belgium vzw remains focused! Key Points: Political Shifts: The rise of Vlaams Belang in Flanders and the New Flemish Alliance (N-VA) holding strong, while MR and Les Engagés are expected to solidify their presence in the south. Potential Policy Delays: If N-VA prevails, they may propose delaying the phase-out of combustion engines from 2029 to 2035, potentially mirroring EU considerations. Stability is Key: Political uncertainty often leads to a slowdown in EV sales. It's crucial to maintain a clear and consistent commitment to eMobility to ensure consumer confidence. Belgium’s Strong Position: Despite challenges, Belgium is a leader in EV adoption and charging infrastructure, with a significant growth in EV share to 50.4%. With nearly a quarter of a million electric vehicles on our roads and an ever-expanding charging network, Belgium is well-positioned to compete with European leaders like the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and Denmark. The pressing question remains: Can policy decisions either hinder or boost the roll-out of electric vehicles in Belgium? 🚀🔋 Read the full article from Inés Platini here: https://lnkd.in/dU8FHMcK #EVBelgium #eMobility #ElectricVehicles #SustainableFuture #ZeroEmissions #Belgium
