50% of vehicles must be battery electric in 2030 to meet the EU climate targets. By then European cell prices are likely to be as low as 50 to 70 €/kWh, while simultaneously meeting societal and sustainability requirements as well. Even though Asian cell manufacturers are outpacing us at the moment, forcing big European players such as Northvolt , ACC - Automotive Cells Company and SVOLT Energy Technology (Europe) GmbH to shift strategies, I am optimistic that more effective close-collaboration will allow for a competitive European battery cell industry - of qualitative, sustainable battery cells - eventually. "We need competition…" not just between players in the field, but between technologies as well. Prof. Markus Lienkamp of Technical University of Munich walks us through scenarios of cell chemistries and topologies of the future EV in Part I/II. Let's E-Mobilize the Future - together Thank you Prof. Markus Lienkamp for the discussion, as well as Bernd Hömberg and Haus der Technik e.V for hosting us at the Advanced Battery Power and Vehicle to Grid conferences. #battery #research #EV #LFP #sodiumion

excellent article in The Australian Financial Review on how the big bet on #gigafactories turned sour. according to Paul Lusty from Fastmarkets China accounts for 80% of all global manufacturing capacity, Last year there was 315 gigawatt hour (GWh) of excess battery production – equivalent to more than 5 million electric cars. good news for consumers with prices of #lithiumion cells falling below US $100 a KWh down more than 80% over 10 years. The news in Europe is not great. Northvolt is reviewing investments and ACC - Automotive Cells Company has suspended work on plants in Germany and Italy. #rawmaterials #criticalrawmaterials #evbattery #electricvehicle

🔋 Reflecting on Insights from the Last BatteryLiveTalk! 🔋 Following the discussion in the recent BatteryLiveTalk focused on European mechanical and plant engineering within the battery ecosystem, I wanted to share some key highlights that resonated with me. Markus Gräf from CELLFORCE GROUP and Daniel Eggerath from Jagenberg Converting Solutions emphasized the importance of local-to-local alliances. Establishing a network where immediate problem-solving and a shared commitment to quality are paramount sets a solid foundation for success. They examined the question of what is necessary to gain an edge over the Asian competition: Gräf underscored the significance of innovation and dry coating in the cell industry, highlighting its potential to save energy, money, and space, and reduce CO2 emissions. Eggerath stressed the utilization of European strengths, emphasizing process knowledge, and the importance of supporting and enhancing employee capabilities. Trusting in our capabilities and recognizing the urgency of action were key takeaways. Gräf also reassured that Cellforce is well-prepared for challenges like the Battery Passport, given their meticulous data collection and understanding of their energy usage and material sourcing. Eggerath emphasized the importance of turnkey solutions and seizing opportunities swiftly. The train in Europe is fast, but you also have to jump on it. Excitingly, the next BatteryLiveTalk is scheduled for March, promising further insights and discussions. Stay tuned for updates and mark your calendars: Online | 21.03.24 | 16:30-17:15 CET. Downscaling of LIB cell production in Germany continues. Now SVOLT Brandenburg factory is out, however, Saarland will continue as of now where pack assembly will be hand over 1.July to SVOLT while cell factory still less certain as permitting and law suits and a "full economic feasibility study" will be done after permit granted. Sad news for green energy transition but will continue likely in next 2y due to low economic growth and uncertainty in Western Europe. #Batteries #electricvehicles
