Policy predictability is the cornerstone of electric vehicle (EV) growth. At EDP, we’re proud to contribute to the e-mobility revolution by providing the proper public charging infrastructure. We’ve surpassed 6,000 contracted charging points in Portugal and Spain and enabled over 2 million charging sessions. This highlights the immense potential of e-mobility when supported by strong political commitment—a trend we see reflected across Europe. The latest ChargeUp Europe campaign, #Opportunity35, calls on policymakers to maintain the 2035 phase-out target for diesel and petrol cars. Sticking to this target will unlock enormous economic opportunities, create thousands of new jobs, and accelerate the transition to a sustainable future. Next week, on December 9th, European policymakers will gather to decide on the future of Europe’s automotive industry. Their decisions will determine whether we stay on course for a cleaner, more sustainable future—or risk stalling the transition to e-mobility. The stakes couldn’t be higher, and it therefore felt very natural for DRIVECO, and myself, to fully support #Opportunity35, a joint initiative of AVERE - The European Association for Electromobility and ChargeUp Europe, which highlights some key elements policymakers should take into account: - by 2035, Europe will need 64 million EV chargers, a dramatic rise from today’s 10 million. - the EV charging industry is expected to create 222,000 jobs and contribute €92 billion—equivalent to the GDP of an EU member state. - as a pioneer on this market, DRIVECO keeps on growing and creating jobs across European markets - in the past 18 months, we grew our teams by 100% These milestones are more than just targets: they represent a roadmap for growth, innovation, and, most importantly, investment.
