Mac Pritchard is the founder of Mac’s List, a Pacific Northwest job board driven by a simple idea: the hiring process should be more human. Mac’s goal is to break down the barriers between employers and job seekers, so that everybody can win. Mac created Mac’s List in 2001. Tuesday Thought: Its so easy to get caught up in the rush to achieve targets and meet deadlines. Yet, it's essential to remember that the true essence of success lies not in isolated acts but in the consistent habits we cultivate every day and every week. "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit." Aristotle This philosophy extends beyond individual efforts to the very core of team dynamics. Building a high-performing team isn't about sporadic bursts of brilliance; it's about founding a culture where positive, kind, and human interactions are the norm. Be Positive: Approach every challenge with a can-do attitude. Celebrate every win, no matter how small, and use positivity to fuel motivation and drive. Positivity is contagious and can transform the work environment into a space of creativity and productivity. Performance LIVES within positivity. Be Kind: Kindness is a powerful tool for building trust and camaraderie. Simple acts of appreciation and understanding can significantly boost morale and collaboration. A kind word or gesture can make someone's day and inspire them to give their best. A TRUSTING team stands a much better chance of winning performance daily. Be Human: Remember that every team member brings their unique strengths and perspectives. Embrace diversity, show empathy, and support each other in both professional and personal growth. Being human means recognising the value in every individual and building an inclusive environment. My challenge to you is this, Commit to making excellence a habit, not just in our work but in how we treat one another. Create a thriving environment where everyone has the opportunity to excel and feel valued. It’s proven. Pursuing a passion outside of work makes you better at your job. Insert loud and obnoxious cheers & wooting noises. A recent article in Inc. magazine states people who pursue interests outside of their careers return to work rejuvenated and inspired. San Francisco State University found that people who engaged in a creative pursuit were 15-30% more effective at work. Researchers couldn’t tell if the creative pursuit was a motivator, helped people recharge their batteries, or had some other benefit, but they did show that these employees were at the top of their game when they returned to work. A British study recently found that if people have a hobby, they are more confident in their ability to overcome challenges on the job and in their lives. The study found that the more passionate the person was about their hobby, the more they achieved self-confidence and mastery in their professional and personal lives. The article further suggests having a hobby outside of work can increase your mindfulness and even make people nicer. Outside of work passions can even lower stress and improve focus, helping people sharpen their minds and relax, a de-stressor that many of us need after a long day at the office. Do you have a hobby or interest/passion outside of work? How do use it to destress? Me? I perform regularly. Transforming myself and becoming another person on stage is rewarding as well as challenging. Every role, every story, every performance is different. It's about connecting and collaborating with other people — in the cast, crew, and audience. I just wrapped a play yesterday. A VERY hard and emotionally draining play. But, one that was oh so rewarding. I had the privilege of playing the role of Karen (opposite my real life husband) in “Dinner With Friends,” the Pulitzer Prize winning play by Donald Margulies. Granted, this play made me invest in and ride a roller coaster of emotions, but it was such an amazing ride every night with this fabulous cast. Now that the play is over I need to invest in a new hobby. You know, or get cast in another show. 😉 Taking all new hobby recommendations and/or roles. 🎭💜 #theatre #hobby #acting #productivity

It is easy to feel like life just happens to us. Sometimes it feels like we’re at the mercy of other people's actions or circumstances (especially in this economy and political season) BUT “victim mentality” keeps us focused on what is WRONG and who’s to BLAME. When we do this we are viewing ourselves as the "passenger" in our own life. Take the wheel my friend. Last night, I checked an item off my bucket list and witnessed the aurora borealis about 40 minutes east of San Diego. While through the human eye, I could only see a pink tint to the sky, my camera revealed a more breathtaking view. This reminded me of how changing our "lens" can often transform our perspective, uncovering hidden beauty and opportunities. Whether it’s practicing gratitude, empathy, or simply being more aware, different lenses can dramatically alter our view of the world. LinkedIn needs an LFG button. I've been liking, supporting, and celebrating the same posts and concepts since before I had kids (yep, one's a rising HS senior, so you do the math on our inertia). Seriously. #psychologicalsafety #activelistening #inclusion If you're a leader. And you're still reading - and liking, supporting, or celebrating posts ABOUT these ideas...may I ask what you're actually DOING about them? We've seen the data. The burning platform. The business case. Teams that are diverse, that are psychologically safe, that are led by empathetic leaders who actively listen? They deliver stronger results. I firmly reject this nonsense. Inclusion and equity are not the same, they are two very different concepts with very different meanings. For an organization that says that it is leading the Human Resources profession, this is a disgusting, despicable, and disturbing announcement. I knew the moment that Johnny C Taylor started talking about civility that this is where he was headed. SHRM should be ashamed of themselves and they need to get a new CEO pronto. Get back to the right side of history. Inequity does exist and Human Resources professionals should be leading the charge to bring equity to every organization. There is so much work to be done and this isn't helping. Why did the math book look sad? Because it had too many problems. 😂 Don't we all. Problems are inevitable in life. What matters is how we learn from them. 1.5 years ago I had destructive habits. Habits that impacted how I showed up for my family. Habits that were not aligned with the man I am. Habits that were causing problems with my family and finances. I woke up one day (literally, Sunday, October 5th, 2022) and decided to change them. I learned that my behaviors were a problem. I learned that I was indulging in them to hide feelings of being overwhelmed and escape from the day to day. Now, after significant personal work, I love my day to day. I accept that I had some problems regulating my emotions and communicating. Now I over-communicate and allow my emotions space. The first step in course correcting problematic behaviors is acknowledging you have them. You can learn. You can change. Ps. Interested in change? Pps.
