Empowering Female Managers: Kelly's Journey to Advocate for Her Worth

Kelly, a highly skilled Project Coordinator, found herself in a familiar situation in the corporate world. She excelled at her job, loved her company, and respected her boss, yet her title and pay didn't match her responsibilities. Kelly, a highly skilled Project Coordinator, found herself in a familiar situation in the corporate world. She excelled at her job, loved her company, and respected her boss, yet her title and pay didn't match her responsibilities. Her duties were equivalent to that of a Project Manager, yet she was earning less and held less authority. This misalignment led to frustration and self-doubt. Kelly embarked on a transformative coaching journey with the goal of staying with the company, while addressing these challenges.
Kelly's case represents a common challenge faced by female leaders. Despite performing at a higher level, they struggle to advocate for themselves and secure the recognition they deserve.
We delved into Kelly's aspirations and discussed her desire to stay with her current company. The challenge was clear: She needed to initiate a conversation that would align her title and pay with her responsibilities. We worked closely to identify her daily responsibilities, quantifiable achievements, and the positive impact she had on the business. We navigated the EmpowerHER program framework to prepare her to confidently ask for what she deserved. Role-playing exercises helped bolster her confidence.
Shortly after our last session, Kelly initiated the courageous conversation with her boss. She presented her case (supported by data) and outlined her accomplishments and the value she brought to the organization. It paid off as she emerged with the title of Operations Project Manager and a substantial raise!
Today, Kelly is thriving, doing the work she loves with a team she values. Her journey exemplifies the power of self-advocacy. As Tabatha always say, "you can't be told 'yes' if you don't ask."
