Mac Pritchard is the founder of Mac’s List, a Pacific Northwest job board driven by a simple idea: the hiring process should be more human. Mac’s goal is to break down the barriers between employers and job seekers, so that everybody can win. Mac created Mac’s List in 2001. He wanted to keep in touch and share great work opportunities with his network. As you can imagine, I’m totally on board with Mac and his vision, especially as it is tougher for older job seekers and career reinventors to find their pathway forward in this volatile economy. In our conversation, we talk about the “Ikigai” of finding your dream job, and answering my favorite four questions to help people build confidence by focusing on their strengths and on practical, marketable value in the career marketplace. #business #careers #over50 #ageism #hiring #dreamjob #getajob #gethired #workingolder #workforce

Interview tips for older job seekers, we got you covered. And if you missed the episode where we dove into the experience of interviewing in tech as an older person, comment “ep” and we can send you the link!
Host of It Gets Late Early, a show about getting older in Tech and ageism in the workplace | Age Inclusion Advocate I Speaker I Podcaster I Seen in WIRED, Business Insider and Inside Edition | ex-Journalist
I bet this is your favorite interview question...am I right?! This is one of the most annoying and hated questions for people of ALL ages, but if you happen to be on the older side, this question can also get at whether or not you're heading towards retirement. Employers care about tenure - they want people to stay in their roles for a long time because it is expensive to source, hire, and train employees. So, they're looking to get some ROI on that in the form of your dedicated labor at their company. Whether we like it or not, 42% of hiring managers harbor biases against people based on age (both "too young" or "too old"). In addition, some people are biased against those who remain at the individual contributor role and don't want to move into management, so suggesting a goal to move up the ladder could potentially help your case. The goal is to put yourself in the best position to land the job, so make sure to cover your bases! --- PS if you want to hear an It Gets Late Early episode all about what it's like interviewing for tech jobs in your later years, I got you covered. Comment or DM "ep" and I'll send it your way. #interviews #jobsearch #ageism

Meet Blair Roughen, one of our hard-working recruiters. Let's learn more about her below. 🔸Years in the industry: 3 years 🔸What do you like most about working in staffing? My favorite part about staffing is the relationship-building aspect. So much of our job is about networking and making connections. Searching for a new job is also so time-consuming and can be exhausting so being able to help take some of that stress off of someone’s plate is very rewarding. 🔸What do you think are the best skills that you bring to your job? I feel like one of the best skills I bring to my job is my use of LinkedIn. 🔸What's the one thing about you few people know? I was a model as a baby! I was in ads for Lands End and Walmart haha! 🔸As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? Growing up I always wanted to be a teacher! 🔸What's at the top of your bucket list? Traveling to the coast of France and Italy! 🔸What are you happiest doing, when you’re not working? Spending time with my friends in the city, shopping and being out of the house! 🔸6 Degrees Group is all about connections between people. What’s your “6 degrees”? I know Susan Stow through my mom. She sent her my resume and then I started interviewing! I love how we all work to help other people in their job search but we are also an amazing team that lifts each other up. Everyone at 6 Degrees is always willing to lend a helping hand to a candidate or a colleague. #MeetTheTeam #recruiter

WORRIED ABOUT GAPS ON YOUR RESUME? I used to think the same. After my first layoff, I was initially worried about having a gap between the last and next role …however, I was quickly reminded that rather than staying in the job just to avoid these conversations with future employers, I realized that this was another way for me to tell my story. Gaps in resumes shouldn’t make you any less qualified than the next candidate. It all comes down to HOW you pitch your story to your potential employers. Employers typically enjoy listening to stories that give them a fuller picture of your profile AND will determine if it’s a fit for their team and organization or not. Because I’ve firsthand been in that exact position where I had to tell my stories to provide a clear picture of the gaps in my career …I didn’t shy away from telling the truth. The key isn’t what you say but HOW you say it. So the next time you are asked about the gaps in your careers, rather than being worried how this would impact work ethic, use this opportunity to pitch your story AND how you will be an added value to their overall business. Do you feel there is still a taboo about career gaps? What can we do to change that? 👇 --- ☞ Check out my new FREE 5-day Career Clarity Challenge.
