Yes! Yes! and Yes! This may be one of the most on-point articles that I have read on workforce policy and outcomes and one of the hottest discussion topics at the moment. "Why has the system generated such disappointing results for job seekers over the last several decades? It is organized around a failed premise: the belief that unemployment and underemployment are primarily a result of individual skill deficits and that if the system can equip people with “in-demand skills,” then employers will reward those people with good wages. Critical thinking skills were fully engaged at today's Twin Cities Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Roundtable. This post is talking about succession planning. It’s a topic owners tend to think about late in a company’s development. I maintain the same principles apply the moment you decide to add your first manager and continue as you build your leadership team. I agree with the camp that says every hire that fills a management position should also be a potential senior leadership team candidate. Taking it further it makes sense that your selections for the senior leadership team should be succession candidates. There are always nuances and exceptions but the overarching idea is a good one. Doing so will make scaling your processes and systems easier because you will always have potential process owners to choose from.

Another good read from S&B. There are so many ways to frame this work that can create real business impact. It should come as no surprise that I like the comment on critical conversations with employees. "There are important moments with employees—if they are new to the organization, underperforming, ambitious, or looking for a change in roles—in which it’s vital to discuss and clarify strategic priorities and expectations for performance and behaviour". One of those critical conversations or moments of truth within most professional services firms is when a professional's journey starts to transition from mastering domain knowledge and utilization to growing the firm and mastering the market. My advice? Turn that critical conversation into a next-generation sales leadership program that supports both culture reinforcement and strategy execution. As my Dad use to say..."now we're cooking with gas". #salesculture #conversationalintelligence #strategy
