A base game standout in the top 25 this quarter is Cash on Reels which accounts for 36% of top performing themes and can be found in 7s Fire Blitz from White Hat Studios, Demons Gold from Inspired Entertainment, Inc., Sahara Riches Collect Em from Playtech, and Egglink Chicken Fox from Light & Wonder. Traditional base games and artwork, those emulating mechanical reels, also perform well in the top 25 for the quarter with games like Gamecode's Triple Stones, AGS - American Gaming Systems 3x Ultra Diamond, Games Global American Double Gold, and Everi Holdings Inc.’s Cash Machine Jackpots. I'm grateful for the opportunity to appear on CNBC and chat with Contessa Brewer about the Ohtani sports betting saga. My takeaways: --> While the betting activity occurred exclusively in the illegal market, there will be implications for the legal sports betting market. --> Those implications will likely come in the form of increased demands from state and federal regulators for tracking, reporting, and general transparency around money movement for high-value or high-volume accounts. --> Federal regulation via legislation focused on marketing restrictions, consumer protection, etc, remains quite unlikely; federal intervention via Treasury/FinCEN is all but inevitable. --> Most betting-adjacent crimes (theft, money laundering, etc.) take place in illegal gambling markets, meaning that it's imperative for policymakers to support a robust and viable market for legal gambling. --> Bonus that I didn't get to cover in my comments: The winners of increased scrutiny are the third-party companies (such as Kinectify, GeoComply, Xpoint, and Gaming Laboratories International, LLC) that can help the FanDuels and DraftKings Inc. of the world mitigate the impact of increased regulatory scrutiny. --> While not *net* winners, the operators best positioned to absorb the increased costs and friction from additional regulatory scrutiny are those who sit most squarely at the intersection of "largest" and "most experienced with federal scrutiny." While the digital channel dominates much of the conversation around gambling industry innovation, I believe there are still plenty of Big Ideas to explore on the retail casino side. I talked about one of my favorites during G2E: The Sports Resort, a new casino development paradigm that pairs the integrated casino resort model with sports entertainment. I've included the full presentation below, but in a nutshell, the story goes like this: - Vegas has proven that you can marry tier-one sports entertainment and casinos profitably and sustainably. - Sports Resorts are a compelling vehicle for bringing casinos into new jurisdictions in the U.S. (e.g., Texas) and abroad, much as the integrated resort model facilitated the opening of Macau and Singapore. - Sports stadium development is already moving toward the integrated resort model (i.e., full-spectrum entertainment districts activated 365 days a year). - We're entering a wave of redevelopment as many U.S. sports stadiums are nearing the end of their useful lives. - At the same time, opposition to public financing of stadiums appears to be accelerating, creating a funding void that can be filled by including a casino component. I expect this to be one of the defining industry topics in the years ahead for Vegas, the U.S., and perhaps the international market as well.

After a tough beginning of the year, commercial casino gaming markets have rebounded the last couple months and online casino and sports betting continue strong growth. Somewhat contrary to recent prognostications of recession. However more commercial markets are down than up and those that are up significantly are in the early innings of their cycle toward maturity. How much gas is left in the consumer tank? Interesting times ahead.

Street Craps Explained For the past several weeks I have been writing a series of articles about Casino games, and more specifically, about certain bets and ways to play them. The tax rates will range from 20% to 40%, replacing the state’s current 15% flat tax rate on adjusted gross operator sports betting revenue. When signed into law, Illinois will become the first state to increase its sports betting tax rate since Ohio raised its rate from 10% to 20% last year. The move could signal a trend as other states consider similar measures to boost revenue. Your actions will be discussed within the professional community and on gaming forums. I believe you would prefer to avoid the negative reputation that might result from this.
