🚨 Beyond the Headlines: Speculating on iGaming Under a New Administration As the political landscape shifts, many are speculating how a second Trump administration might approach iGaming and the broader gambling industry. The connection between Donald Trump and casinos is well-known, but does his past ownership translate to empathy for modern gaming operators? History suggests otherwise. Trump’s relationship with casinos ended long ago—his final meaningful ties severed in 2009 after resigning from Trump Entertainment, a company that later struggled through multiple bankruptcies. By the mid-2010s, he had sued to have his name removed from properties like the Trump Taj Mahal, making it clear he wanted no association with the Atlantic City gaming scene. During his first term, the administration’s stance on gambling was marked by the Justice Department’s controversial reinterpretation of the Wire Act—a move backed by Sheldon Adelson that sparked years of legal battles. With Adelson no longer a driving force, it’s unlikely we’ll see similarly aggressive policy shifts. However, with Trump set to take office in just over a month, would iGaming initiatives benefit from regulatory clarity, or would progress stagnate under federal indifference? While it’s safe to assume iGaming won’t be a top policy priority, the industry may feel the ripple effects of broader economic and tech regulations. For now, the future remains positive. What do you think? Could a second Trump administration bring stability, change, or further challenges for iGaming? Let’s discuss! The sports betting industry is growing. To protect that growth, the industry is investing heavily in "Responsible Gaming" initiatives. You are free to roll your eyes and say these efforts are just the industry pretending to self-regulate, but your skepticism doesn't diminish the importance of this work. You see, sports betting is one of the fastest growing areas of the sports industry. Sports books have lobbied hard to get more states online (legalized), and they continue to push (current numbers are around 22 states have legalized sports gambling). By providing tools to help gamblers regulate their sports betting behavior, sports books can stay in the good graces of the regulators and continue to scale their operations. That's a big IF. After all, how many industries have done self-regulation well? I've been thinking a lot about this recently, because we use our fan intelligence data (credit and debit card transactions as well as other first party data) to help the sports betting ecosystem grow. As a result, I believe Sports Innovation Lab has an important role to help with Responsible Gaming initiatives. Let me explain why: 1) We can see what the sports books can't see. We see cross-platform deposits. That means, if a consumer bets $200 on FanDuel but $5000 a month on DraftKings Inc., FanDuel won't know they have a potential problem gambler. We see the same consumer's activity on all platforms. 2) We can create a unified view of a consumer. Similarly, if a consumer uses multiple credit or debit cards and multiple bank accounts to bet, it is challenging for a sports book to know this is the same consumer or household. With our Sports Data Cloud, we can rationalize this view, so we can be helpful here. In the end, whether you're a fan of sports betting or not, it's here. If the industry is serious about self-regulation, we need the tools to do this well. Cross-platform visibility is key. I'm confident we can help shed light on this betting behavior. https://lnkd.in/ez_SH3Ad

WATCH: In this exclusive video interview on 'The Edge,' Louisiana Gaming Control Board Chairman Ronnie Johns discusses: * The impact on the state if Texas approves commercial casinos and sports betting -- though he doesn't see that happening until the 2030s. He also talks about whether: * The nine no-sports-betting parishes will legalize sports wagering; * The tax on sports betting will go up in Louisiana; * The state will approve online casino gaming (slots, craps, blackjack, etc.); * More riverboat casinos will move their operations ashore; And much more.

Provocative article about the SAFE Bet Act quotes Jeff Ifrah: "It would be struck down as unconstitutional... In short, this whole thing is a gimmick." While iDEA supports responsible gaming, this bill represents harmful federal overreach into areas successfully regulated by states since the 2018 Supreme Court decision that struck down the federal ban on sports betting (PASPA). Its restrictions risk stifling innovation, pushing bettors toward illegal markets, and undermining state progress. 🚨 New Paper Alert 🚨 Joseph Nedved and I look at the effects of the introduction of online sports betting in the Pennsylvania market, specifically looking at slot and table gaming revenues. Descriptive statistics suggest a decrease in slot gaming and table gaming revenues after the introduction of sports betting in the state. Econometric results suggest no short-term effect, but potential longer-term effects from the introduction of sports betting, driving up both slot gaming and table gaming revenues. These are important results given potential tax revenues implications. This was a very cool project that came about from Joe's capstone project in my class. I am very proud of the outcome. 🎲American Gaming Association rejects new federal sports betting bill! The Supporting Affordability and Fairness with Every Bet (SAFE Bet) Act was introduced last Thursday and would require US states to ensure that licensed operators comply with minimum federal standards in three categories - advertising, affordability, and Artificial Intelligence (AI). The bill would establish a general nationwide prohibition on 🎰sports betting, creating exceptions for states that have been approved by the Department of Justice (DOJ) to operate a 💰sports betting program. Applicants seeking DOJ approval must include detailed attestations to show how the state has met the minimum federal standards. The 📜legislation proposed by the septuagenarians would also prohibit sportsbook advertising between 8am and 10pm, and during live sporting events, with inducements such as bonuses also banned. Operators will not be able to accept more than five deposits from a customer in a 24-hour period and will be required to conduct ‘affordability checks’ on customers before accepting wagers in excess of $1,000 in a 24-hour period, or $10,000 in a 30-day period. Deposits via credit card will also be prohibited. American Gaming Association senior vice president of government relations Chris Cylke said the “heavy-handed” 🚫federal prohibitions were a “slap in the face” to state 📜legislatures and gaming regulators. #SportsBetting #GamingNews #BettingLegislation https://lnkd.in/e-s3iY3G

Another successful NCLGS meeting in the books. We covered an array of gaming topics, but nothing is in the spotlight like iGaming expansion. As we continue to work on model legislation to help produce best practices for lawmakers, one thing remains clear - gaming states, especially those with iGaming, are winning. They are winning by shrinking the black market, producing new revenue without raising taxes of their constituents and providing consumer protections which do not exist in the readily available black market. It is not only a winning proposition, but also an objective fact. https://lnkd.in/eWJuq86F
