Israeli tech is at a crossroads On the one hand, we see a surge in tech, particularly with AI. On the other hand, we're dealing with a decrease in economic activity and a potential shift in the job market While it's true that the current situation in the country has led to a decrease in economic activity, we must also consider the impact of AI on the job market. Companies may be using the current economic climate as a cover to transition to AI-driven operations, a move that isn't typically popular… The rapid development of AI, such as OpenAI's GPT-3, suggests that we may see a big shift in the job market sooner than anticipated. While this is great for efficiency, it also raises concerns about job security, and the future of jobs Furthermore, the job market, especially in the tech sector, is becoming increasingly competitive There are fewer jobs than there are people looking for work. This issue is particularly pronounced in the Haredi community, where job opportunities are even scarcer. The community faces additional challenges, including bias and a lack of experience. Most training programs today don't offer job experience or placement, leaving individuals to navigate the job market on their own Given these circumstances, #entrepreneurship emerges as a viable path… knowing how to run a business and possessing skills that can't be easily replicated by AI can be a real advantage Along with those challenges, another major question is… is Israel a conducive environment for setting up a business?   The Israeli government's stance towards businesses, particularly #startups, plays a big role in shaping the country's economic landscape. High taxes and stringent regulations can deter entrepreneurs, pushing them to relocate their businesses to countries like the US This trend is worrying… as startups and new businesses are the key drivers of economic growth. A decrease in the number of companies not only reduces job opportunities but also hampers growth The government's role in fostering a supportive environment for businesses cannot be overstated Initiatives to ease regulations, provide tax cuts, and offer support can significantly enhance the business landscape, encouraging entrepreneurs to establish and grow their businesses in Israel While it's true that thriving businesses may not always equate to more jobs, particularly because of #AI, they do contribute to economic growth. The profits generated by these businesses can be reinvested into the economy, catalyzing further growth The next few years in this country are about striking a balance between embracing tech, entrepreneurship, and ensuring job security, as well as creating an environment conducive for building businesses What are your thoughts on this? BlinqIO, a startup founded by Israeli entrepreneurs Tal Barmeir and Guy Arieli, has raised $5 million in a Seed funding round. The funding was led by Flint Capital and included investments from Inovia Capital Precede Fund I, TAL Ventures, and SeedIL. BlinqIO has developed autonomous human-like virtual testers operated by AI, providing companies with an infinite pool of testers that can be integrated into the development process. This allows companies to allocate higher value work to their human workforce. The platform leverages generative AI and Large Language Models (LLM) to enhance its operations, with the AI test engineer being able to comprehend requirements and autonomously create and maintain test automation code. The funding will enable BlinqIO to establish new offices in the U.S. and expand its workforce. Impact on the generative AI industry: Positive. BlinqIO's platform, which combines generative AI and Large Language Models, offers a solution to remove bottlenecks in test automation and provide developers with instant feedback. Back from a super hectic week in the Bay Area, meeting some of the world's top VCs together with Israel Innovation Authority VP and head of international division, Shlomi Kofman, previously Consul General to the Pacific Northwest in San Francisco. 2 main takeaways from the week: 1. "Software eats the world" is so 2014, a surprisingly growing amount of funds are heavily invested in #deeptech, and looking for bold ideas that include deep research and physical components, such as hardware and AI infrastructure, robotics, semiconductor, bio materials, data center tech, homeland security, space, supply chain, manufacturing, renewable energy and more. The world isn't flat any more, and Silicon Valley is back into silicon. 2. Israel's brand as a startup hub is strong and firm as ever, after demonstrating impressive resilience amid october 7th and delivering in unbearable conditions. Not a single fund from the 25+ funds we've met reduced or plans to reduce it's exposure to Israeli innovation- on the contrary- there's strong interest to see more Israeli opportunities and lead or join deals, including outside the traditional fields of Cyber, Fintech and #SaaS. The decrease in valuations, availability of strong human capital and Israeli academia were also mentioned as a plus. In addition, seems that Greylock, Sequoia Capital and Accel who announced in the last couple of weeks the opening of new Israeli offices/funds, will not be the last funds to do so, stay tuned. #nomatterwhat 🇮🇱

Very interesting report of Israel's AI ecosystem by F2 Venture Capital, Google Cloud and Deloitte. 🔍 On a high level: - The AI startup ecosystem in Israel is booming, with over 2,150 active AI companies, representing ~30% of the local tech sector. - Startups leveraging AI attracted over 60% of all capital raised in 2023. - The country ranks 3rd globally in private AI investment, demonstrating its strong position in the global AI market. 💡 Key takeaways from the report: - Vertical AI is a stronghold. It attracts the largest share of private funding, with Life Sciences, Healthcare and Fintech (banking, financial services and insuretech) leading the charge. Israel's deep domain expertise in these sectors positions it as a potential global leader. - Autonomous Enterprise (Horizontal AI) shows promise. Cybersecurity is a particular strength, capturing 56% of the segment's funding However, the development of multi-modal, end-to-end solutions and AI agents presents further opportunities for cross-industry applications. - AI & Data Ops is a key area for growth. Israel's strong talent pool and focus on enhancing existing infrastructure make it well-suited to address the growing demand for cloud-based AI Ops platforms and efficient data management solutions. Playtika has announced a definitive agreement to acquire SuperPlay, an Israeli mobile gaming company, for an initial price of $700 million, with an additional contingent consideration of up to $1.25 billion. The full value of the transaction, totaling up to $1.95 billion, depends on SuperPlay achieving specific financial milestones over the next three years. Founded in 2019 by former Playtika employees Gilad Almog, Eyal Netzer, and industry veteran Elad Drory, SuperPlay has quickly gained recognition for its popular mobile games Dice Dreams and Domino Dreams, with two more games currently in development. In 2024, both titles experienced rapid growth, amassing a combined 1.7 million average daily active users as of August. Following the acquisition, Gilad and Eyal will continue to lead SuperPlay as an independent studio within Playtika, reinforcing the resurgence of mobile gaming acquisition activity. Contrary to the gloomy atmosphere regarding the resilience of Israeli tech and its entrepreneurs, IVC found that the rate of establishing new startups in 2024 is expected to be similar to that in 2023. According to analysis from IVC Data and Insights and LeumiTech Q3 2024 Tech Review, the downtrend in the rate of new companies in Q1-3/24 has been moderated. Although the number of new startups is low at 154, a calculation based on two decades of measuring the rate of new companies shows that the number will shoot up retroactively. Many new startups announce their activity after reaching a milestone, not at the formation. Playtika has acquired mobile developer SuperPlay for $700 million, at the very least. If Tel-Aviv based SuperPlay also hits certain financial targets over three years, an additional contingent consideration of up to $1.25 billion will also go to the company. The acquisition is “expected to add an experienced team to Playtika with a track record of launching new, successful games”. SuperPlay was founded by former Playtika employees Gilad Almog and Eyal Netzer. Both Gilad and Eyal will continue to lead SuperPlay as its own studio within Playtika with this acquisition. Most notably, the SuperPlay is behind two titles: Dice Dreams (a coin looter game), and Domino Dreams (a board focused game). The games currently have a combined 1.7 million average daily active users as of August 2024. Playtika cites a few strategic & financial benefits for the acquisition, such as acquiring the high growth IPs within the Coin Looter and Board categories, adding the strong dev team, and creating an earnout structure that rewards performance while reducing risk. IVC Data and Insights is proud to be the primary data provider for the Israel Innovation Authority Annual Report 2024 and the Tel Aviv Tech Ecosystem Report 2023 by the Tel Aviv Yafo Municipality. In both reports, the IVC's data supports a comprehensive analysis of the Israeli tech ecosystem. According to Tel Aviv Tech Ecosystem Report 2023, Tel Aviv is home to nearly 3000 tech companies and the first worldwide for startup conversion.
