On December 15th, Assemblymember Rick Zbur presented our Executive Director, Arnali Ray, LMFT, with the AD51 Community Excellence Award for Social Justice on behalf of Hollywood Food Coalition. Assemblymember Zbur has been an incredible ally in Hollywood Food Coalition's work rescuing and redistributing food for communities throughout District 51, from Santa Monica to Griffith Park. Arnali accepted the award alongside fellow community leaders and organizations recognized for their impactful contributions. In her remarks, she emphasized the urgency of our mission: “It is unimaginable that so many people in our city are still going hungry, especially when perfectly edible food is being wasted. Every person deserves not only to eat, but to be cared for and treated with dignity. Our vision is a city where everyone has food, community, and support—this is the driving force behind everything we do.” Arnali said while gratefully accepting the recognition from Assemblymember Zbur. Notable community leaders and partners were also honored at the event, including Kerry Morrison, founder of Heart Forward LA; Rabbi Mari Chernow of Temple Israel of Hollywood; and the team at Pink’s Hot Dogs.

Thank you, Austin and the entire team at Toast.org for your help and enthusiasm! It’s thanks to value aligned companies like yours that we’re able to continue fulfilling our mission and vision of a Los Angeles where everyone has food, community and support!
Kenneth Marshall, Sergio Arguello, Oron Carty Jr., Blair Guo, Ethan Schmidt and I had the opportunity to make and pack 250 lunches Hollywood Food Coalition on behalf of Toast.org for unhoused and food insecure Los Angelenos. We felt so honored to get to help out the community in a small way and work together to make these lunches. Their mission is to nourish our community by rescuing and distributing food, preparing nightly meals, and uniting efforts to achieve food equity. From my experience in news, I have witnessed firsthand the impact of food insecurity on communities and I admire organizations working to bridge that gap. I look forward to volunteering again with them and other organizations doing great work in LA area.

This #GivingTuesday, we want to show you the direct impact of your generosity. We’re moving our Community Exchange warehouse to a new space in Glassell Park with double the cold storage, enabling us to rescue and distribute not only larger quantities of food, but also food that is more culturally relevant. Thanks to supporters like you, organizations such as The Village Family Services, Community Space Food Bank, Accion Comunitaria, and Friends Community Center, use food from our Community Exchange to nourish their communities! These organizations serve former foster youth, immigrant families, LGBTQIA+ community members, and are just a few of the over 160 nonprofits in our network. We’re also excited to announce a $20,000 matching gift from the Ledford Family Foundation, which will double the impact of every dollar donated - please help us reach our $20,000 goal to unlock this generous match! Help us nourish the community! https://lnkd.in/gQn7uF6Q
