Thanks for your article in F&P (Fundraising & Philanthropy) magazine, Steven. Valuable advice for #charities. Do you have advice about admin + overheads for grant-seekers? In my experience, non-profits - especially those new to grant fundraising - can feel uncomfortable requesting a high funding amount. Your advice to people who are "shy" about asking for what they need is spot on: "describe what you would do with more funding if available". Sometimes organisations undervalue the costs associated with a grant. Applicants request funding that is not enough to cover the cost to deliver the program, forcing them to use reserves or other funds (donations, bequests) to make up the difference. Charities should request an amount that covers all the "hidden costs" required to write, deliver, measure and acquit the grant, including staff time, and a percentage of the organisation's running costs. This amount should also make allowance for the funds needed to ensure the organisation is sustainable - investment in capacity, governance, innovation, staff development and raising the next dollar (fundraising). The sector is becoming more aware of the need for greater flexibility in grant funding. More funders are awarding grants with less restrictions so the money can be directed to where it will have the most impact. Initiatives such as Reframe Overhead + Pay What it Takes are encouraging charities, funders and donors to change the conversation. Could programs like Penfolds' help to educate grant-seeking non-profits to account for the cost of being sustainable in their approach? This could help reverse the dominant "hand-to-mouth" attitude in the sector. I'd love to hear your perspective. #nonprofits #fundraisers #fundraising #grantmaking #grantfundraising #forpurpose

Pushing the purpose of LinkedIn... but sometimes, we all need a reminder about the impact of our roles, especially as we head into November and the busy holiday season. As someone who wears many hats, I’m excited to share a unique opportunity that combines two passions: great wine and meaningful support for the NoBarriers Education Foundation. Incidentally we area ALWAYS on the lookout for more Directors or project volunteers to spread the load. Please reach out, to either myself, Sigrid Pfaffle Andrew Stevens about these opportunities - particularly if your passion is #humanrights #zimbabwe #education or #fundraising #marketing #publicrelations). I have popped our new website in the first comment for those that are interested in the work we do and the goals we've been kicking over the last few years, but I digress as this post was meant to be about wine!! Our fundraising partner, winedirect.com.au will donate $50 for every purchase of the exclusive wine package from the link below to support us to provide essential resources and life-changing opportunities for disadvantaged young people in Zimbabwe. We provide them with bikes, school meals, menstrual products and workshops, school fees as well as IT equipment and clean water. So if you're going to buy wine ANYWAY.... or you're busy buying up in the Cyberweek sales..... please consider a wine purchase through the link below as every little bit counts for us! So, as the festive season kicks off, why not raise a glass that also raises hope? 👉 https://lnkd.in/gUx5FVpg Your support makes a difference. A share would also be massively appreciated 🙏 #NoBarriersFoundation #WineForACause #SupportEducation #CharityWine #WineLovers #MakeADifference #Fundraising #SocialImpact #GivingBack #PurchaseWithPurpose #HolidayGiving #CommunityImpact Andrew McAlindon CHIA Steven Cameron Russell Caird A/Prof Samantha Battams Natalie Arthur Georgina Dove Dr Sanjoti Parekh Alan Piper Jenni Gamble Jenny Yeeles Allan Sarago-Ah Kee

In honour of this month's National Volunteer Week and Food for Good Week, we asked team experience participant Jason Mehta, "What's a corporate champion?" Here's his response! ProServIT “From the moment I was involved in my first Food Sort Team Experience at Food for Life back in 2018 I fell in love with the mission and the community impact of supporting families in need. I knew I needed to rally more people to get behind this incredible organization. Not only does FFL help families in need, they provide a valuable opportunity to corporate groups to give back the community and do something meaningful, getting a peak "behind close doors." Knowing that the impact of your efforts, as a team, stem to the success within community is incredible. Immediately when you go through a team experience at Food for Life, you are guided by staff and/ or who are passionate, full of energy, and working as one to showcase all the elements and hands that go into support. This organization has developed exponentially since the last time I came 5 years ago, and it’s clearly been supported by many local corporations and citizens driven to help with food sustainability and responsible food waste. For volunteers and teams who get to learn about food loss, food waste and see the food that is rescued on site, you’ll be amazed to learn how your experience contributes to reducing greenhouse gases, and feeding people in community. You will want to give a donation to Food for Life on experience day once you know just how much you would be doing towards a sustainable environment. I can’t speak more highly of an organization that is truly empowering the community and allowing a human RIGHT to everyone to put GOOD food on their tables." Looking to become a community champion? Does it really matter? In the bustling rhythm of board meetings, strategic planning, and navigating the ever-evolving market trends, it's easy for us, as business leaders, to become enveloped in the microcosm of our work. However, every so often, an opportunity arises that beckons us to look beyond our corporate confines and make a real, tangible difference in our wider community. Today, I want to discuss such an opportunity—an event that, despite my usual reserve from personal public posts, I feel compelled to share with my peers in the business world. The Boys and Girls Club of the Big Bend is hosting its annual Steak & Burger Dinner in 2024, an event that not only serves as a celebration of the achievements of our at-risk children and teens but also as a crucial fundraiser to ensure the continuation of support and programs dedicated to their growth and safety. As CEOs and business leaders, our attendance and contributions can make an incredible impact. Why is this event so significant, and why should it matter to us as business leaders? The answer is twofold. Firstly, the value in having a direct impact on the lives of young individuals is immeasurable. By supporting organizations like the Boys and Girls Club, we contribute to a safe haven for children and teens to learn, grow, and thrive. These are future leaders, innovators, and perhaps future employees who, with the right support, will go on to achieve great things. Secondly, attending the Steak & Burger Dinner is a testament to our commitment to corporate social responsibility. In an age where consumers and employees alike are increasingly looking to align with companies that genuinely contribute to societal well-being, our participation is a powerful statement. It reflects our values, our vision for a better world, and our belief in giving back to the community that sustains our businesses. This event is more than just a dinner; it's an opportunity to inspire and be inspired, to connect with fellow leaders who share a vision of making a meaningful difference in the world. It's a chance to directly impact the lives of young individuals who need our support now more than ever. I urge my fellow CEOs and business leaders to join me at the Boys and Girls Club of the Big Bend's 2024 Steak & Burger Dinner. Let's stand together for a cause that extends far beyond the boardroom—a cause that has the power to change lives and build a stronger, more compassionate community. Your presence can light up the path for these young souls and perhaps, in their success, we'll find one of the most rewarding investments of our careers. I warmly invite you to join Keynote Speaker Coach Mike Norvell, or contribute in any way you can, confident that your support will undoubtedly forge a brighter future for our emerging leaders. Dear ITAA members, I hope all of you had a safe trip back home and spent a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday break with your family and loved ones. I couldn’t be prouder with the conference we had in Long Beach this year. Everything ran smoothly, mostly. The presentation rooms were full. Posters were inspiring. Pecha Kucha presentations offered a new way of getting more information in a shorter time frame. The design exhibits were beautiful and innovative. I was extremely happy to see everyone enjoying each other’s fellowship and friendship. We now have one more month left in 2024 and I would like to emphasize once again that ITAA has accomplished so much. During my speech titled, “It’s Time to Soar,” on Thursday morning, I asked to see how many people in attendance volunteered for ITAA in any shape or form. Almost everyone in the room raised hands. I was Initially surprised initially then quickly became so proud. I realize that I should not have been surprised at all. After all, we are “the” premier professional organization in the field, and without everyone’s involvement and volunteerism, this organization would not work. So, of course, everyone is involved in, volunteer for, and help ITAA. So, I am saying this once again before this year is over. Thank YOU all for making ITAA what it is today. We need all of you to continue to make ITAA the premier professional organization. Before closing, I would like to address an important correction. Continuous improvement is essential for maintaining productivity and ensuring the success of our organization. We learn from our mistakes and actively plan to prevent them in the future. With that in mind, we introduced our new corporate partnership program in 2023; allowing our corporate partners the opportunity to select the specific event or event provisions they wish to support based on their chosen level of partnership. This year, both ITAA and our corporate partners communicated that Bloomsbury “sponsored” the opening reception and the Thursday lunch, and that Humanetics “sponsored” the Friday lunch and inadvertently failing to mention that Humanetics sponsored our fantastic new name badges. Upon reflection, we realized that the use of the term “sponsor” caused some confusion among our members, leading them to believe that these corporate partners covered the entire cost of the meals. To clarify, ITAA wishes to emphasize that our intent was to acknowledge Humanetics' extensive “diamond membership” and Bloomsbury’s generous “gold membership.” The purpose was to publicly recognize these organizations, not to imply that they funded the full cost of these meals. We have learned a valuable lesson about the importance of careful word choice, and we appreciate your understanding and patience as we continue to improve. I wish all of you, your family and loved ones, happy holidays and great new year of 2025! I look forward to hearing from you all next year. Ha-Brookshire Jung, ITAA President 2024
