Having been in the security industry for what seems like an eternity ( feels like that sometimes!) I often wonder if under cutting your rivals by a significant amount is ultimately the logical thing to do? Some will still have their keyholding services at a very low amount which to a prospective client is very favourable, but is charging for urgent work only once ( even if your stuck on site for more than 1 hour) really the right thing to do? After all you are there to provide a service and being held on one location that is impacting other work should come at a cost, if your stuck on a task for 75+ minutes then surely you should bill accordingly? Some seem quite happy to lose potential revenue just so they can show they are the cheapest in the area , I wonder if that’s the right thing these days? Having seen over the years that offering the cheapest service in the area maybe a good thing and yes it may pull in lots of work but having the man power to cover that work is a must. In charging for work there’s cheap and there’s also “too cheap!”. Personally I think the company I’m work with now has got it right in how we do things, what will 2025 bring? SPOILERS!

My Google alert just went off reminding me about this lovely chat I had with Martin Cooper MBCS of BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT. Those working at BCS might be scratching their heads, and thinking “don’t I know her?”. Well, yes, you do. Before I found my way into cyber, you’d find me marketing the flip out of anything end-user related for that BCS place! If you’re looking for a darn good read, why not take a look at https://lnkd.in/euCveA7c and remember to add the practical advice to your Monday to do list.

This story is great to see - https://lnkd.in/d4PyFxBi - that a British council has scheduled wargames, and that in relation to cyber those wargames are mentioned in the same short article in relation to wider emergency planning. As the CrowdStrike outage shows, technology is now so tightly integrated the default should be to consider its impact in all areas of our lives. Path Dependence Limited and our associates can put these kind of wargames together for you, as can other suppliers. I can help you figure out kind of wargame you need, or help you find the right supplier - and what to ask them - if it's not us. But do follow Cheshire East Council's example - get something scheduled, even if it's just an introductory conversation; this is kind of task that it's easy to postpone, until something happens and you wish you hadn't. ( cc Robert Grayston ) ( cc Josie Griffiths hi, excuse me @'ing you on here, but I think the most should be made of positive stories in this area. I'd be interested to know what outcomes from the wargaming will be made public, and whether recent outages managed to "focus" your decision makes struggling with tight budgets. )

Have you noticed in detective shows they refer to any info on finding a suspect as a ‘lead'?🤔 Well, that's because finding a prime suspect is a lot like finding your ideal customer (ICP) 🥸 And just like Quantico, to be able to close when you do send to the right people, you have to PROFILE correctly first. So, to catch your prime suspect (ICP), what does it involve? ✅️ Understanding what keeps your ICP ticking (what do they need) ✅️ Knowing the likely places your ICP is based (location info) ✅️ Gathering what your ICP does for a living (job title varitations) ⛔️ You don't need to delve into your ICP's childhood trauma here, that's a big NO. But… the point I'm making is, you watch it everyday on TV so don't overcomplicate it. Write down these three factors and see who fits the bill. #Sales #Leadgen #prospecting

Taking a Stand Against Malpractice - Report Confidentially Over the past year, an increasing number of security professionals have taken a bold stance against corruption, tax avoidance, exploitation of staff, and other challenges plaguing our industry. Individuals like Adam Jones, Myself, Daniel Garnham, John Lambert, and others who prefer to remain anonymous have courageously called out unethical behavior or collaborated to address these issues. Through numerous discussions, a recurring theme emerged – while many are aware of malpractices, they often hesitate to report them directly to the Security Industry Authority (SIA), HM Revenue & Customs or law enforcement for various reasons. To make reporting easier and more accessible, John Lambert have created a dedicated email address: [email protected] This channel is solely accessible to John Lambert, ensuring complete confidentiality for those who share information (unless the reporter explicitly consents to being contacted for follow-up). While we strongly encourage using the official SIA or HMRC online reporting tool (link's provided below), this alternative channel offers a safe space for those who prefer not to report directly but still want to take action against wrongdoing. If you witness malpractices and choose to remain silent, you become complicit in allowing these unethical practices to continue. You cannot complain about suppressed pay rates, undercutting by unscrupulous competitors, or the industry's tarnished perception if you don't take a stand. So, I urge you to act – either report directly to the SIA using their online form (details below) or share the information confidentially through the dedicated email address. Together, we can uphold the integrity of our profession and create a more ethical and sustainable security industry. Remember, silence only empowers those who exploit the system. Your voice matters, and your report could be the catalyst for positive change. Official SIA Reporting Details: The SIA online reporting form allows you to report security staff or companies who are: Using invalid/fake SIA licenses Employing unlicensed individuals Falsely claiming to be SIA approved Using excessive force or predatory behavior Abusing their position or using unlawful restraint techniques Link to SIA online reporting form: https://lnkd.in/e39qehwD Link to HMRC online reporting form: https://lnkd.in/e3Gauq7q Let's collectively raise the standards of our industry and foster an environment of accountability and professionalism. I look forward to your support in this crucial endeavor. International Professional Security Association (IPSA) Security Industry Federation Security Industry Authority HM Revenue & Customs

What are some key strategies that companies can implement to better prevent and respond to sexual harassment? Companies can implement several key strategies that focus on creating a safer and more respectful work environment. Here are some effective measures: Farah B. from FFA Security Group presented at The Security Event (RSE2024) on Sexual Harassment in the UK Security Industry. In the article link below she discusses the findings from her comprehensive study and outlines what companies need to do to address and prevent these issues effectively. One thing she recommends is: ' Comprehensive Training: Companies should provide regular and mandatory training for all employees, including management, on what constitutes sexual harassment, how to prevent it, and how to respond if they witness or experience it. These trainings should be interactive, engaging, and tailored to the specific context of the industry.' We have a mixed industry session on 6th November - book here https://lnkd.in/e6eabX28 Or contact me directly to chat about a specific session to your organisation which will include relevant case studies. #sexualharassment #newduty #sexualharassmentprevention #training #RSVP #securityindustry

Three U.K. insurance associations have joined forces with GCHQ’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) to collaborate on reducing ransom payments made by #cybercrime victims. The new guidance aims to enhance market-wide #ransomware discipline, disrupting the profitability of the ransom business model to minimize harm to victim organizations. The ‘unprecedented’ cross-sector partnership will bolster U.K.-wide #cyberresilience, providing a robust response following a 2023 parliamentary review on ransomware. The document titled ‘Guidance for organisations considering payment in ransomware incidents’ aims to minimize the overall impact of a ransomware incident on an organization. It also aims to help reduce disruption and cost to businesses, the number of ransoms paid by U.K. ransomware victims; and the size of ransoms where victims choose to pay. #threatlandscape https://lnkd.in/gS9UfVUf
