From the Alliance for Safety and Justice: "Key findings from Crime Survivors Speak, the largest commissioned survey of violent crime victims: By a three-to-one margin, victims believe that the most effective way to reduce crime is to create more jobs and housing instead of long sentences, and by a nearly two-to-one margin, victims of violence prefer investment in prevention, crisis assistance, and communities over more spending on arrests and punishment. The survey also shows that seven out of ten victims of violence prefer sentencing policies that allow judges to consider the individual circumstances of the crime, the victim, and the defendant over requiring uniform sentence lengths for specific crimes." If you are in the DMV, you can learn more about this new research at the Crime Survivors Speak March in Washington: happening today and tomorrow. The Jewish community represents only 2.4% of the population, but they are the target of 67% of all religiously motivated hate crimes in the U.S., a 12% increase in just the last year. Secure Community Network continues to work in partnership with local and national law enforcement to track and mitigate threats to the Jewish community, referring more than 1,600 individuals to law enforcement, and logging over 5,400 incidents of concern at Jewish facilities. Please see this press release for more information about the important work we do. https://lnkd.in/dwvTtz4Q? "SCN urges every community to remain vigilant, review and enforce existing security protocols, and maintain coordination and communication with law enforcement and security personnel. For imminent threats or emergencies, dial 9-1-1, and report all suspicious activity to local law enforcement as well as appropriate local reporting authorities, and SCN’s 24/7 Duty Desk at [email protected] or by calling 844-SCN-DESK."

Our CEO Naomi Hulston was part of Prime Minister’s first Knife Crime Summit held at Number 10 earlier this week. Many of the services and programmes we run at Catch22 are focussed on preventing youth violence, including knife crime. To make the Government’s ambition of halving knife crime a reality, there must be a long-term commitment to understanding the challenges within communities and what youth provision is out there. We need to create environments in which young people can build genuine relationships of trust. There is also a major roles for schools in the prevention agenda. How are we equipping children and young people with the skills they need for the jobs of the future? What do they need to navigate the dangers presented by the offline and online world and build resilience? We look forward to working with colleagues from across the sector to use the evidence and insight from our frontline services and programmes to shape national policy. https://lnkd.in/eDFSu4Dn

In #Mexico, the USAID-funded Violence Prevention and Reduction Activity bridged municipal security and access to local justice, adopting a civil justice model which respected the essence of the country’s justice system. It is rooted in the believe that crime prevention comes first, as acknowledging and addressing the root cause of the conflict prevents escalation of violence. #AccessToJustice #DevelopmentWorksHere To hear directly from those involved in adapting the civic justice model to meet local needs, watch this video:

We have found that offering rewards for crime information leads to enhanced results. We offer Enhanced Rewards to solve cases involving murder, rape, violent attacks, child abuse and serious organised crime, often when investigators struggle to get a crucial piece of evidence, because they have hit a wall of silence. It’s incredible to see the way a new approach can make a real impact on people’s lives! The civic justice model is based on the belief that justice is about more than providing sanctions. By focusing on the addressing and resolving the root causes of conflict, we can make dramatic strides towards avoiding the escalation of violence.

What's one of the biggest obstacles right now in the fight against human trafficking? In June, the U.S. Department of State published the 2024 Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report. The report highlights global trends in human trafficking, emphasizing both successes and challenges. It notes achievements in law enforcement, victim protection and prevention initiatives across various regions. It also identifies persistent issues, including the exploitation of vulnerable populations exacerbated by factors such as conflict, natural disasters and the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. And the evolving impact of digital technology on trafficking is a significant focus of the report. Check out our latest blog for our key takeaways from this year’s report: https://lnkd.in/guQeJt-v
