I’ve taken a break this last week or so to spend some time with family, as well as to get a big website project ready for handover to the client for testing! 🫣 As I’ve got more involved in bigger projects, I’ve found that the internal testing periods takes me OUT for a couple weeks 😅 so much so that I feel a little lost when it’s over! I really like to immerse myself in the website, not just testing it visually but also populating content and thinking about the authorship experience ✍️ Because we build our sites to have customisable and flexible content, it’s so important to me that everything functions properly and it ultimately works for the client who will be populating that content - I can’t think of anything worse than a clunky, unusable CMS! With the current state of things, I'm sure this isn't a unique situation so thought I'd see if anyone has any tips. I'm currently still working (roughly 15-20 hours a week) but the work I have is really pushing it for being enough to pay bills so I've been trying to find either more contract work or a full time job to just replace everything. Picked a great time to be doing that right? Haha. Anyways, my days atm generally consist of: 1. Waking up (obviously) 2. Working for between 2-5 hours (usually mentoring/lecturing for the bootcamp I work at) 3. Spending a couple hours on some leetcode questions which I'm actually starting to enjoy due to the challenge. 4. Attempt to find jobs to apply for that are either here on the island or fully remote. 5. Possibly finish with more mentoring/lecturing. My issue is I'm having a heck of a time having the energy to do 4 most days as I'm usually feeling brain fried by that point or just incredibly tired for some reason. This is obviously detrimental to the whole finding more work thing. I also want to work on the site I started to build but I don't even know where to fit that one in right now. Anyone else in a similar situation or have any tips for ways I could maybe handle things better?

Watching England is like visiting a confusing website It’s been painful watching the England football team this week. They simply look disjointed. Like a fish without chips. Or apple crumble without custard. And the fans (like me) aren't happy. It's simply unpleasant to watch. And the people in charge seem oblivious to the big issues. This situation also reminds me of when I come across a confusing and fragmented website. There might be no clear message across the website, horrendous navigation or perplexing CTAs. The list is endless. Either way, your customer will leave the experience confused, frustrated and with bad taste in their mouth. They certainly aint going to give you any ticket money. They won't come back soon. And they might well go and support another, more entertaining team instead. And Google will listen to these angry customers more than Gareth Southgate, because it hates bad user-experience and and will probably relegate you from the competition. Alternatively, you could start trying to fix the problems. And just like England's midfield condundrum, it ain't rocket science. Research what makes a happy customer. And discover who your customers are and what they want. Build a cohesive experience and you will score every time!!
