Ahead of Tech Talent Live, as part of TechNExt, we spoke with Caroline Williamson, Skills Manager at Sunderland Software City, about why careers events are important at any level of your career... 🗣️ What advice would you give to others who are attending careers events? "My advice for attending careers events is to be proactive and approachable. Don't be afraid to strike up conversations and ask questions. Have a few key points about yourself ready to share, and be sure to follow up with new contacts afterwards. Making a genuine connection can make all the difference." 🗣️ What should you prepare before attending a careers event? "Before attending a careers event, it's essential to do your homework. Research the companies and professionals who will be there, and have your CV updated and ready to share. Prepare a few thoughtful questions and practice your introduction so you can confidently present yourself. The more prepared you are, the more you'll get out of the event." Don't miss out on the opportunity to attend... Secure your ticket to Tech Talent Live here🔗https://lnkd.in/eSKMe6Cu #careerevent #technext24

PFW 2024 Career Expo: Complete! ✅ Thanks to Alex Blauvelt’s recent “career search tips” post, I knew to #dohomework on the employer’s that would be at the expo. After doing my homework, I realized that only seven of the 80+ employers are currently offering opportunities that I want to pursue. Having narrowed down which booths I wanted to visit proved to be beneficial for multiple reasons… -the stress level of having 80+ conversations was eliminated -I was able to focus my conversations on how what I offer aligns with the few positions that I’m interested in -successful repetitions of clear and concise conversations built confidence -the time spent with prospective employers was minimized which honors their time and allowed them to speak with others also #onthejobhunt These things led to healthy, comfortable, courteous, and productive conversations. An added bonus: I left with some neat #professionalswag courtesy of PFW! (Pictured below) I’m feeling confident about the job search. Thank you PFW Career Development Center for hosting! Go Dons! 🐘⚫️🟡

𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐦𝐚𝐲 𝐛𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐛𝐮𝐭... I recently had the pleasure of speaking to a fantastic audience of tech enthusiasts, who were very eager to learn The secret sauce to Tech career success. I was so happy to see how people wanted to be more informed as they pursued innovation. We all know how competitive the market is at the moment. The reality is that you may be the most wanted candidate but it isn't enough to simply state your tech abilities, if you don't know how to provide and present concrete examples of how effective your work is. What got you here, won't necessarily get you there. Thanks to Tech Jobs Fair for organizing and for welcoming me as a keynote speaker for "Get Hired in Spain". What do you think are the main ingredients that need to be added to The secret sauce to Tech career success? #danielasarmiento #personalbrand #executivepresence #selfleadership

🌟 Attending GHC 2024? Here’s What to Do (and What Not to Do)! 🌟 As a past virtual Grace Hopper Celebration (GHC) scholar in 2020 and 2021, I've gathered some valuable insights to help you make the most of this incredible event. Whether it's your first time or you're a seasoned attendee, these tips will enhance your experience: ✅ Do: 1) Plan Ahead: Review the agenda and choose sessions that align with your career goals and interests. Map out your schedule to ensure you don’t miss key talks and networking opportunities. 2) Engage Actively: Participate in discussions, ask questions, and share your thoughts. Engaging actively helps you make meaningful connections and gain deeper insights. 3) Network, Network, Network: Take advantage of networking sessions, both formal and informal. Introduce yourself to speakers and other attendees. LinkedIn is a great tool for post-event follow-ups. 4) Visit the Career Fair: Prepare your resume and elevator pitch. The career fair is an excellent opportunity to connect with top tech companies and explore job opportunities. 5) Leverage Social Media: Use event hashtags and join online conversations. Social media can be a powerful tool to connect with fellow attendees and speakers. ❌ Don’t: 1) Overbook Yourself: While it’s tempting to attend as many sessions as possible, avoid scheduling back-to-back sessions without breaks. This can lead to burnout and reduce the quality of your experience. 2) Ignore Virtual Opportunities: If you're attending virtually, don’t skip online networking or virtual booths. They can be just as valuable as in-person interactions. 3) Neglect Self-Care: Conferences can be exhausting. Ensure you take time to rest, eat well, and stay hydrated. Your well-being is crucial to making the most of the event. 4) Stick Only to Your Comfort Zone: Challenge yourself to attend sessions outside your primary field of expertise. This can broaden your horizons and inspire new ideas. 5) Forget to Follow Up: After the event, follow up with new connections. Send personalized messages to thank them for their time and discuss potential collaborations or opportunities. Attending GHC is a phenomenal opportunity to grow, learn, and connect. Make the most of it by being prepared, proactive, and open to new experiences. Ask me any advice or questions! 🚀 #GHC2024 #WomenInTech #Networking #CareerGrowth #TechConference #GraceHopperCelebration
