About Us
Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH) provides a broad and diverse range of
services for patients of all ages across mental health, physical health, learning disability and drug and alcohol
services. We were awarded Foundation Trust status in 2007 and we have an annual budget of around £150 million.
We employ around 3,400 people, have a staff bank of approximately 470 people and an active volunteer base of
around 150 people

We currently provide services across the geographical footprint of:

Doncaster - All Age Mental Health, Children’s Services, Community Integrated Services, Learning
Disabilities, Forensic Services and Drug and Alcohol Services

The Trust has a dedicated Training and Development Unit and provides a wide range of training and development
opportunities for all staff

SALARY SACRIFICE SCHEMES

The Trust currently provides salary sacrifice schemes for Home Electronics/Mobile Phones, Bicycles, Cars
and Gym membership.
The car scheme is operated by Fleet Solutions through Vivup. If you already have a salary sacrifice
fleet car you can discuss transferring this over to RDaSH by speaking to Fleet Solutions.

The Trust works with Transave Credit Union to provide an easy way to save and access affordable
loans. Money is deducted monthly from your salary which can be as little as £5 per month. Savings
can be accessed at any time.

STAFF SUPPORT

Vivup provide a confidential helpline to staff providing assistance with family matters, debt,
counselling, benefits and tax credits and relationship issues.

PAM (People Asset Management) provide Occupational Health services to the Trust. This
includes access to fast track physiotherapy and fast track counselling /CBT/Resilience
Programme.

PAM Life is an online health and wellbeing platform available to all staff providing access to
Wellness Coaches who can provide personalised fitness plans, diet plans, stress management
plans and help improve work life balance
The Neyber Financial Wellbeing Hub is available to all staff and provides tips and tools
about credit, borrowing, budgeting, debt, saving and investing
PERINATAL SERVICES

JOB TITLE: Perinatal Practitioner

BAND: 6

HOURS: Full Time (37.5)

DEPARTMENT: North Lincolnshire Care Group

LOCATION: North Lincolnshire

REPORTS TO: Band 7 Early Intervention Services Team Manager

ACCOUNTABLE TO: Integrated Networks and Borough Wide Services Manager

JOB PURPOSE:
 The perinatal mental health service provide specialist community care for
women who are at risk of development, relapse or recurrence of a serious
mental health problem.

 The role of the Perinatal Practitioner will be to undertake comprehensive


evidenced based assessments and formulation of treatment plans and address
Perinatal Service enquiries providing practical advice and support.

 To work in conjunction with the Perinatal Clinical Lead and Medical Personnel to
develop and deliver safe and effective services, in accordance with key
national targets, clinical standards, service priorities and key performance
indicators.

 To work in partnership with commissioners and other partner agencies to


provide Perinatal Services that achieve the best possible outcomes for service
users.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
INTERNAL: Adult Mental Health Services both inpatients and community –
i.e SPA, Crisis, Home Treatment, Liaison & Diversion, Early
Intervention Services, Recovery Focussed pathways.
EXTERNAL: Mothers, Babies and Partners / Carers
Specialist Perinatal Services- Humber NHS Trust.
Humber, York and Vale STP partnership
GPs, Children’s Services, Mother & Baby Units
Health Visitors / Midwives
Acute Hospital Services (Obstetrics, Midwifery, Paediatrics)
Social Services and Voluntary Organisations.
ORGANISATIONAL STRUCTURE:

MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical

1. To work independently as part of the STP wide Perinatal Service to assess, plan
and implement service users specific clinical interventions based on presenting
perinatal needs.
2. To be responsible for the clinical triage of service users who access Mental Health
Services during pregnancy and in the first year post-partum and signposting on
to the most appropriate service which may include follow up with the perinatal
mental health service.
3. To undertake more complex evidence based assessments, using your profession
specific clinical knowledge and skills.
4. Taking continuing responsibility for the assessment and planning of identified
care needs of allocated patients, implement their care plans and review as per
care coordination policy guidelines.
5. Attend and participate in clinical meetings in a variety of settings, care plan
review meetings, team business meetings, other professional meetings and child
protection conferences, providing written and verbal reports where required.
6. The post holder will ensure that each assessment is conducted collaboratively in
consultation/agreement with the service user and their partner where
available/appropriate.
7. The post holder will give relevant evidence based advice/guidance to service
users and callers including signposting and close liaison with GPs and other
agencies, this may be via telephone or other means.
8. To function effectively across a variety of environments (e.g. ward, department,
patients homes etc.) involving changing and demanding conditions

9. To use a comprehensive range of verbal and non-verbal communication tools to


communicate effectively with service users and their families the diagnosis and
treatment plan, that may be complex and sensitive, to help progress
rehabilitation. This will include persons who may have difficulties with
understanding or communication.
10. To provide interventions in the community as part of the perinatal service where
this is the pathway of choice.
11. To evaluate patient progress and alter treatment interventions as and when
appropriate.
12. To involve service users in goals and treatment proposals.
13. To gain valid informed consent to work within the legal framework with patients
who lack capacity for informed consent or are subject to the Mental Health Act.
14. The post holder will provide advice and support in respect of service users open
to existing secondary mental health services.
15. To be responsible for own time management and the prioritisation of your clinical
work schedules.
16. To attend clinical meetings, liaise closely both verbally and in writing when
required.
17. To manage clinical risk positively and effectively.
18. To be able to manage stressful, upsetting or emotional situations in an
empathetic manner.
19. To develop partnership working with all relevant agencies/services/individuals to
support optimum management of the identified client group
20. Report any areas of concern regarding child protection issues.

Professional

1. To fully engage in clinical supervision in accordance with the Trust’s Supervision


Policy
2. To engage fully in CPD in line with professional and Health Board requirements.
3. To participate fully in the Trust’s mandatory training requirements.
4. To maintain registration with the relevant professional body.
5. Maintain records in accordance with the principles of good practice and the
policies of the Trust.
6. Working flexibly to meet the needs of the Perinatal Service.
7. Effective time management and good organisational skills to ensure multiple
tasks are completed in a timely manner to meet service demands, prioritising
work as appropriate.
8. To maintain up to date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and
issues in relation to both the specific client group and mental health.
9. To deliver a comprehensive training package to a multi agency group of staff to
continue the promotion of perinatal mental health across the care group.
Working Relationships

Working relationships will be maintained with:

 The existing secondary mental health and inpatients Services


 Departments within the Trust
 Other working partners including GP’s, CCG’s, Health and Social Care Services,
Voluntary Organisations, local and STP wide Partner Agencies and Service User /
Carer Representatives
 The post holder will be committed to attending clinical and business team
meetings and representing the Perinatal service at other activities/meetings.

Communication

 Communicate in a way which recognises difference and ensures that people


feel included and their individual communication needs are met.

 Communications with service users must at all times be safe (appropriate) in


content, respectful and made compassionately to minimise anxiety and distress
related to their wellbeing.

 Communicate with all professionals and family members involved with the
persons care in a way that acknowledges the different contexts and
requirements involved in each communication. This will shape the content and
process through which this communication is offered e.g. expert knowledge
communicated in a professional meeting or empathic understanding with a
family member.

Service Development and Improvement

 Participate in research and audit projects within the Perinatal Team.

 Contribute to the ongoing development of Quality standards for the service.

 Contribute actively in the development of high quality care in the Perinatal team
through team initiatives, membership working groups in accordance with overall
service objectives and RDaSH Nursing and Clinical Effectiveness strategies.

 Develop and evaluate innovative elements of care.

Health and Safety

The post holder is required to take reasonable care for his/her own health and safety
and that of other persons who may be affected by his/her acts or omissions. The post
holder is also required to co-operate with Supervisory and Managerial staff to ensure
that all relevant statutory regulations, Policies, Codes of Practice and departmental
safety procedures are adhered to, and to attend relevant training programmes.

Prevention and Control of Infection

The prevention and control of infection is an integral part of the role of all health care
personnel. Staff members, in conjunction with all relevant professionals will contribute
to the prevention and control of infection through standard infection control practices
and compliance with the Trust's infection control policies.
