Just released! Compassion in World Farming - Food Business second annual Salmon Welfare Scorecard, spotlighting public policies on 13 key welfare criteria in salmon farming. This initiative promotes greater transparency in welfare practices across the industry. It’s encouraging to see GSI members and other farming companies actively participate and improve results —proof that transparency and advancements around fish health and welfare is increasingly prioritized not just for GSI members but across the sector. 📣 LAUNCHED TODAY: Our second Salmon Welfare Scorecard evaluates the public policies and reporting of 11 major producers across 13 welfare criteria. These producers - AquaChile, Bakkafrost, Camanchaca SA, Cermaq Global, Cooke Scotland, Grieg Seafood, Lerøy Seafood Group ASA, Mowi, Multi X, SalMar, and Scottish Sea Farms - collectively represent 63% of the global salmon industry.   The Scorecard shows positive progress, with 62% of producers improving their policies and reporting on salmon welfare compared to last year. However, there is still significant room for improvement as the industry still falls short on transparent reporting for issues like high stocking densities, high mortality rates, and barren environments. The journey to better salmon welfare continues, and the industry must continue to push for higher standards and greater accountability.
