The Road Ahead could be Confusing!
The road ahead is going to be different and confusing for recruiters as well as job seekers. With millions of people on unemployment it’s impossible to predict what the job market will be in the future, but it will definitely be a “new normal.”
One thing I know for sure...it will be impossible to hire or place all the candidates who will turn to us for help, finding a job. That is one of the most difficult challenges we face as a recruiter or talent acquisition professional. Often the candidates who need us the most, do not have the experience, skills or credentials our hiring authorities require, and as a result we don't hire or place them.
Unfortunately, when candidates have a negative experience, they may never consider working with you in the future, buying your product or referring their friends. They may even voice their frustration on social media. With so much uncertainty in the job market and everything people have been through in the past few weeks, it's critical that we provide a positive candidate experience.
My inability to hire or place every person who came to me for help has frustrated me throughout my entire career as a Recruiter until I began to research possible solutions. Months later I created a resource that helps job seekers implement techniques used by us (recruiters) and it helped them conduct a successful job search. Job Seekers can participate on FREE weekly webinars that includes Q & A to answer questions most important to them.
Imagine the joy of helping every job seeker you attract and never having them feel ignored and wondering if their resume ended up in a "black hole!" This Career Portal has also been used to provide a form of out-placement and career counseling for employees who are furloughed or laid off. You could also offer this resource to veterans, non-profits or anyone else who helps people find jobs.
If you’d like to learn how to improve the experience of all the job seekers you attract, please sign up for a Webinar I’m conducting on Thursday, May 7, at 11:00 CST entitled "Solve Challenges You Will Face During Historic Unemployment." Click here to register https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/8636748905147541772. This Webinar will provide you with creative ideas on how to improve the candidate experience during our “new normal” while you continue to hire or place the BEST talent! #talentacquisition #recruiter #recruiting #candidateexperience #outplacement #careercounseling #staffingandrecruiting

4yBarbara, thank you for your wise words this morning. I especially appreciated the reminder that we recruiters need to be CALM and a force of hope to those facing so much uncertainty in these unprecedented times.

4yProtecting your brand and reputation is paramount in a referral heavy industry. I like how you have found a way to protect your reputation, build your brand, and provide help to those most in need of recruitment services. This is a great demonstration of compassionate capitalism.

4yI am a fan of all your training and this could not be more timely!
As a recruiter I am defined by the successes of the clients and job seekers I work with.
4yThank you, Barbara, for once again providing valuable insights. One of the things I did way before the virus was to give those candidates I could not place various free resources that potentially would be helpful to them in addition to referrals to other recruiters who could assist them better than I could. I would have them send me their resumes to see if I can make any recommendations that would benefit them. Lastly, if they were not working with another recruiter I would offer to coach them on how to perform on an interview that would maximize their chances of being hired. Frequently my sessions would start after 11:00 pm. My fee for my services was $0.00 no matter how much work I did for them. Very few candidates had a bad experience with me. Naturally, I could not do this for every candidate but I treated everybody in a respectful manner.
