Ghosted By Your Friends When Asking For Unemployment Job Search Help?
Have you attempted to network with your friends and contacts for your unemployment job search?
... and they ghosted you? Or just didn't help?
Did you give up on your networking because these efforts didn't work, and just went back to applying online, and reaching out to recruiters?
Don't be mistaken, because networking is far and away, the most effective and fastest way to find your next job, especially if you're unemployed.
It's not that networking doesn't work ... it's how you networked that didn't work.
And it's not just you. Most career coaches, outplacement advisors and other career resources recommend that you reach out to all your contacts, and then try to reach out to others on LinkedIn, asking if there are any openings, or asking to get your resume to the hiring manager for a job you saw posted online.
That didn't work - It's a completely ineffective job search networking strategy, because you're asking the wrong people for help they can't provide you. What you did works even less effectively when you're unemployed.
All your friends/contacts can do, when you've asked about openings or forwarding your resume, is to tell you jobs that are posted and forward your resume to HR. You could have done exact same thing with the exact same results by applying through the employer's career page.
But there are questions you can ask of the right people within an employer that can give you a massive advantage over other job seekers, if you ask them at the right time.
