Creating The Resume First Impression That Helps You Beat Unemployment In Job Search
Does your resume give a first impression that gets employers to overlook that you're unemployed?
Or is your resume like most other resumes that gives a first impression too weak to overcome the risk of an employer hiring unemployed candidates?
In 2024, employers see risks in hiring you if you're between jobs.
Since employers expect 5 - 10 times more qualified candidates than interview spot, they'll see many times more candidates than available interview spots. Because they have many choices of qualified candidates, they have the luxury of choosing candidates who can help improve the performance of the hiring manager's team.
Unemployed candidates create a risk to employers, because hiring managers don't know why you're unemployed, even if you were let go as part of a large layoff. Hiring mangers realize that layoffs are also used to fast-track the termination of under and average performers, who would likely cause a drag on team performance.
Since the hiring manager's bonus, annual increase and career path depend on hiring new employees who can improve performance, it's clear why the potential of poor or average performance creates a risk.
So take an objective look at your resume ... does it give a clear first impression to an employer that you understand the hiring manager's key problems and have a strong track record of improving team performance?
Or does it give the first impression that you're just another qualified candidate? Since the hiring manager will see many qualified candidates, qualified = average to employers.
And being qualified isn't enough to overcome unemployment risk - You need to do more.
If you're unemployed and not getting enough interviews, hiring process advancements or offers, I'll show you how to change your resume's first impression to overcome employer bias against unemployed job seekers.
