As we approach the end of 2024 and prepare to welcome 2025, it's a great time to reflect on what we truly need from leaders in higher education. The context for higher ed in 2025 is dramatically different, and Scott Carlson's latest article highlights traits that resonate deeply with me: emotional intelligence and humility. In my experience, these qualities can be challenging to find in higher ed leadership. However, when I have encountered leaders who embody these traits, the lessons I've learned from working with them have been transformative—and they have stayed with me for life.
