Reviews are fuel for freelancers 🔥 Go on. Ask. Toasty trade. I was struck by just how many Phil Matthews has on his website. I guess 20 years of doing a great job for people will do that. But... only because he asked for them. You can hear Phil on the Being Freelance podcast - or check out the video to hear why they work so well for him and his business. Don't forget, LinkedIn recommendations are a great trusted way of getting reviews/testimonials as a freelancer. But make sure you take quotes from them and get 'em on your website. When you go to buy a product or hire a business, I bet you look for reviews don't you? ---- Getting reviews is one those things that comes up in my course for new freelancers - you'll find it along with the podcast and community at beingfreelance.com

There’s one mental mindset that will get me more business this year. It works for freelancers. It works for agency owners. With or without you energy. (Whatever mission you are on, it’s going to happen with or without the prospect you’re talking to.) You need to give off the confidence that comes with that mindset. Desperation KILLS a potential deal. Confidence WINS the bid. If you’re a freelancer talking to a new prospect, give off the energy that your spring and summer will be booked up soon. If you’re an agency owner, your energy should be we’re slammed and there’s a line out the door to work with us. Whether it’s true or not, YOU will exude confidence and tap into the basic human nature of FOMO. I’ve personally talked to over 250 freelancers and agencies from our 1200+ waitlist for the platform and I can sense this energy within the first 60 seconds. Be confident in yourself and your knowledge as an expert! Thank you to Daniel Priestley for this amazing concept on the latest Diary of a CEO podcast. #newbusiness #rfp #agencyowner #pitchingskills

I gulped when I saw the response. 😲 The day before, I had pitched a big-name podcast. ⚡ The podcast producer grilled me hard on my pitch. 🙋♀️ She kept coming back with more questions. 🔥 She asked nitty, gritty details. After what felt like 100 emails, I was accepted. Pitching can be terrifying. It's easier to just, well, not do it. Pitching ↪ potential clients, ↪ big-name podcasts, And also ↪ creating posts for engagement, ↪ reaching out to someone you want to partner with... It's all a variation of a pitch in different formats. But growth doesn't happen if you don't put yourself out there. 😫 It can be a grind. 😩 It can be exhausting. Yet each time you put yourself out there, you are growing your freelance business ➡ setting the stage for more people to know about you ➡ creating the compound effect of more eyes on your freelance business Every day, that step you take is putting you a little closer to your goals. Your business will not grow as quickly if you don't put in the effort to pitch what you do to the world at large. There, I said it. Without consistent marketing and pitching, you will see slow(er) growth. 💫 Truth. 💫 So tell me, what are you doing today or this week to pitch your business? P.S. The big-name podcast is Cubicle to CEO and I hope you take a listen and learn about the framework I now teach other freelancers: https://lnkd.in/eqU-bwhP

Maintaining a consistent freelance workload (and income) is HARD. Especially at the moment 😅 We've all lost clients, been ghosted, and had dead cert projects disappear into the ether overnight. But having a consistent workload is SO important for planning ahead and working from a place of comfort, not desperation. As soon as I stopped scrambling to find new work on the 1st of every month and started generating ongoing work, things really changed. Sure, I still marketed myself and my business (we should NEVER stop doing that!), but I could take my foot off the gas a bit and plan for the future. So how do you get there? How do you get to a point where you have a consistent workload and income every single month? That's exactly what I'm covering in this week's episode of the It's Fine, I'm a Freelancer podcast. I'm talking all about strategies and ways you can find consistent work and FINALLY feel comfortable knowing you're going to earn something this month, next month, and the months after. You'll probably want to get a notebook for this one, because I'm dropping a LOT of practical tips! I'll pop a link to the episode in the comments! 👇

There were lots of them!! No, I am not talking about fireworks this weekend (although there was quite a few) I am talking about Women I have interviewed over the last few years talking about their career journeys. New one is out tomorrow. However, I hadn't been interviewed myself until Steve Folland from Being Freelance chose me for his freelance podcast. You can listen to it here: https://lnkd.in/eav8mFz9 It was a nerve-racking experience (nothing that Steve did, of course, just me) but I ended up having a great time and I am still getting messages from people who tell me they have loved the episode, how it has cheered them up and how they can relate to things I had said but never said themselves. But the thing is, I have got the bug now and would love to appear on other podcasts, so if you would like a guest that can talk about 🎙 Being a Virtual & Social Media Assistant 🎙 Anything social media related, including batch-creating tips and content-creating tips. 🎙 Starting a successful business at 44 with/from nothing 🎙 Having/running a business with a chronic illness/pain 🎙 Virtual assistance-related content - think productivity and efficiency, software tips etc 🎙 Getting out there and networking when you have anxiety 🎙 Never giving up Or anything else you would like because, to be honest, I am pretty much an open book. So are you interested in what I can bring? Then send me a DM because I am very much interested in appearing on your podcast. PS I also would really appreciate it if you could repost this so more potential podcast owners might see it. 🙏 Thank you

Freelancing is not at all freedom and glitz. (90% people doing with wrong idea). The cons are often not spoken about. I know freelancers who: → Balance multiple gigs → Volunteer their skills → Have their podcast → Seek advice from others And they usually struggle with: → Making a meaningful impact → Building a personal brand → Multiple clients' demands → Having time for family My best advice to you: → Be creative → Take time to reflect → Focus on the big picture → Prioritize your family any day. Make sure that ideas come to your mind: Get heard, loved, and successfully executed. P.S. You a freelancer? What has been biggest hustle for you?

Freelancers shouldn’t have to sacrifice their work/life balance! Here’s how… Yes, we are pretty much always on the clock, replying to emails whenever they land in our inbox, turning work around in 24 hours and so on… But there comes a point where you need to set a boundary. I’ll give you an example. My parents took me out for a really lovely meal last month to thank me for something that happened earlier on in the year. During the meal, I had an email come through asking for a quote on some work, I had two choices… I could either answer the email and be distracted from my family who mean the world to me and who I don’t get to spend much time with. OR… I could reply to the client later on when I have finished the meal and am back at home. I chose the second one - for me, family will always come first, I can reply to the client 2 hours later when we have finished our meal, which is still good customer service in my opinion! Decide on your values and set boundaries according to these values. Love, Kat x ____________________ Hello! We are Kat & Francesca, hosts and producers of Not the 9 to 5 Podcast. #podcast #EdGandia #community #freelancing One of the first podcasts I ever listened to, which gave me SO many tips and lightbulb moments, was Ed Gandia’s High Income Business Writing podcast. He was in my ears every week... and then, after a pitch and a funny Zoom meeting with me and Lynne Testoni in early 2023, he was in Sydney, blowing everyone’s minds on stage at #TheContentByteSummit. It was surreal and amazing and people still say to me, ‘It was Ed’s talk that made me think about ...’ or ‘I changed my business and now I do this, after hearing Ed explain it at the Summit...’ This is no surprise - the freelance world is full of heroes. Ed is one of mine and, I know, one to many of you. He never stops sharing value and helping freelancers in his orbit. And his words, ideas and advice have shaped so many of our businesses. So I feel pretty lucky to be on Ed’s podcast this week. We're both big believers in the power of community and we chat about Rachel's List, the importance of creating a tribe around us, and how even a small one can add up to much needed support, referrals and overflow work. Tune in if you're feeling isolated and crave that in your life / work - we talk about what to consider when building a community, who to approach (often, the people who light you up and perhaps have slightly different skillsets and audiences to you are the ones you'd like to meet up with more often, even informally). And also, why joining existing communities if you're the new kid on the block is a really smart first step. Thanks again Ed, for having me on! Episode this way if you fancy a listen:
