Are we ready for what's coming?? 🤔 Do we even properly prioritize how #VR can help countries like Ethiopia? I've noticed something worrying lately. Even though VR is everywhere these days in event ads, we're not really using it much! At most locally organized tech events, people are still more into associating the gadget with games or entertainment products. At one manufacturing event held in Addis, most of the visitors didn't get what VR is about. Even some VIP stakeholders (could be from private companies and the government) didn't pay much attention to it! It’s sometimes discouraging how we take time to adopt emerging tech innovations whereas other countries are investing huge amount of resources in VR, like the US Army for example spending 22 billions (https://lnkd.in/gdNXdFkg). Shouldn't we do the same? It's time to support local tech companies and make a version of our own before we lost the future tech evolution. Let's not just talk about tech ‘they’ built; let's make it happen here, let’s have version of ours, let’s have company of ours, let’s have platform of ours before the time is late. We need to focus on VR and other immersive tech to move forward together with other developed countries. We should invest in research and help our emerging tech industry grow! Investors who say they want to see Ethiopia on top should back local tech startups that actually try adopting emerging techs before others do own us. Tech Events should properly showcase local VR projects as much as possible, not just use VR in posters for show. I believe our goal should be to make, sell and locally use our own tech, not rely on imported ones when we have a chance to do same. Let's support startups and make Ethiopia a tech leader as most of us wish. It's time for a change! We need you all stakeholders to actively support AI, XR, Robotics, and other emerging techs like coffee!
