We have published a new research paper: "Wallet wars or digital public infrastructure? Orchestrating a digital identity data ecosystem from a government perspective" by Konrad Degen & Timm Teubner, Technische Universität Berlin, SPRIND - Bundesagentur für Sprunginnovationen & Einstein Center Digital Future. https://lnkd.in/eDfstu7G Abstract With the eIDAS 2.0 legislation, the European Union seeks to establish a digital identity data ecosystem and to empower citizens to manage digital credentials from various sources through an ID wallet interface. To achieve this, governments must develop holistic orchestration models integrating technical, regulatory, and economic perspectives. This approach will foster ecosystem value creation, address orchestration tensions, and design sustainable operating models for various ecosystem actors. While IS research has explored private-sector governance mechanisms in platform and data ecosystems, a research gap exists in understanding public–private orchestration where governments act as orchestrators. We address this through a structured document analysis of 80 position papers from various stakeholders participating in a public government consultation process and 14 semi-structured in-depth interviews. By examining ecosystem value creation mechanisms, orchestration tensions, and monetization challenges, we identify two government orchestration standard types for the ID wallet provision. The Government ID-Infrastructure Wallet model embodies an ecosystem-integrated public infrastructure, while the Trust ID Wallet Federation exemplifies a dynamic and competition-driven approach. 🌍Meanwhile in Berlin... 📅The first Base4NFDI User Conference (#UC4B2024) ends today at the Fraunhofer FOKUS event centre in Berlin - and of course #teamFIZ was also well represented there! 🧭This two-day event which was aimed at members of the NFDI and interested contributors had the mission to showcase the basic services and allow the audience to understand the service offering, examine how they can integrate the service into the #NFDI community, and critically evaluate what this means in real-terms in terms of technical interoperability and local policies. 🎯What were the main goals and takeaways? To get a better understanding and discuss the rollout of the current basic services, give the NFDI community a chance to comment on the services at their respective stages and get a clearer view on what interoperability with #EOSC actually means, how this applies to basic services and what components of the NFDI basic services can be offered at EOSC level. 🙌We are wishing you a great final day of conference and are eager to hear what our colleagues will bring back from this event! #fdm #rdm #nfdi #radar

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗖𝘆𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 🛤️💼 Swantje, originally a computational linguist, now focuses on #cyberresilience. She still enjoys "building bridges" between disciplines, leveraging her diverse background to enhance #security measures. 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗨𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 📊🔍 Swantje explained the difference between supervised and unsupervised learning methods in AI. Supervised learning involves rigorous #analysis at each step, while unsupervised learning pushes a massive amount of #data into the AI and checks what worked and what did not. 𝗕𝗶𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗩𝘂𝗹𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 ⚠️🔍 One major issue she pointed out is biased data, which can be identified using visualisation tools. She emphasised the importance of diligent data compilation and metadata annotation to ensure AI systems make accurate automated decisions. 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗽𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 🔧🔒 Swantje detailed how manipulation can occur at various stages, from training to data serving. She advocated for a holistic security approach and stressed the need for regular checks to ensure AI tools are functioning as intended. 𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗧𝗼 𝗔𝘀𝗸 𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗔𝗜 🤔🧠 Swantje encourages asking critical questions about AI implementation. She provided attendees with a series of questions to ask potential vendors including: How do you check the quality of your data? How well do you know your data? Can you ensure secure integration?
