Coventry Public Library puts teens’ interests first by creating a safe space for diverse teens to grow and connect through tailored programs of D&D, trivia, and professional development. 🫶🏽 "Enhancing connections and making libraries a welcoming space for teens is essential. Teen voices should be heard, welcomed, and given a space in libraries.” - Kylie Woodmansee, Young Adult and Youth Services Librarian Inspired by our recent project and report, Transforming Teen Services for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (TS4EDI), check out how one librarian championed #ConnectedLearning here: https://lnkd.in/gyiiv3_D TS4EDI Resource Site: https://lnkd.in/gsZrtDpQ #ConnectedLearningThroughLibraries #YouthEmpowerment

“For low-income children growing up in the digital age, risks will be amplified and opportunities lost if we do not work to close the ‘new digital divide’ and commit to combating online as well as offline inequalities. Here the focus needs to be not only on differential access, but also on differing experiences, and effects” - Candice Odgers CLA Blog - Bridging the New Digital Divide: https://lnkd.in/gTKTw7Ci #DigitalEquity #DigitalWellbeing #TeenMentalHealth

👾 What Children Think About “Age Appropriateness” in Games from Joan Ganz Cooney Center at Sesame Workshop A sneak peek from their Year One Report: 💡 One size does not fit all when it comes to “age appropriate” - most of the children wanted more flexibility and customization options in the games they play so that their exposure to content and other players can be better tailored to their individual preferences, concerns, and maturity levels. 💡 Some kids like scary things - kids would like clearer and more detailed content warnings so that they can make informed decisions about which games are right for them. 💡 YouTube is part of kids’ gaming culture - we need to consider the cross-platformization of children’s play in the development of policies created in their best interests. 💡 Parental controls are confusing - children need to receive clear communication about parental controls so that they understand their purpose, limitations, and how they fit within family dynamics and household rules. “We wrote melodic and percussive themes for each of these narrative beats, and using the graphic tool of Hyperscore’s Sketch window, which translates drawn lines of different colors into expressions of corresponding musical motives, we represented some of these moments visually. The resulting piece is a two-and-a-half minute saga that sparked joy, laughter, and inspiration for ourselves and our participants.” CLA Blog - Telling Your Story Through Music – Composing with Hyperscore at CLS 2023: https://lnkd.in/g-FtTw8G New Harmony Line #ConnectedLearning

“Deeper learning is an approach to education that goes beyond the shallow level of facts and into critical thinking. The goal is to help students understand and apply what they are learning at a profound level. “With federal dollars connected to many rules about how that money can be spent, however, the Education Department does play a significant role in how schools and colleges operate. Deleting the agency would not undo federal law providing money for students in rural places, with disabilities or who come from low-income families, but doling out that money and overseeing it could get messy.” What might happen if the Education Department were closed? - The Trump administration has promised big changes, but the president can’t make them alone: https://lnkd.in/gC8KJ2_C
