Better podcaster tip #1 Want to start a podcast? Here’s the priority list for podcasting equipment: 1. Microphone - This is the only essential item to get started. I use a RØDE Podmic, but if you’re using your laptop to record, get the Podmic USB. 2. Camera - If you want to video your podcasts, i’d seriously suggest starting with an iPhone if you’re not tech savvy. If you are savvy, Sony EV-1 is compact and epic. 3. Lighting - This comes before a camera if your lighting sucks where you’re recording. If you have a window with natural light, sit next to this. Then upgrade to artificial lighting. NEEWER do awesome, slim panel lights.

Remember “Headphones?” As I sit down to edit the next Device Nation podcast (what an amazing guest we have), I can’t imagine doing it without being able to hear every detail so as to create the best-in-class listening experience. One detail I recently discovered was that my AC was being picked up by my microphone! I never would gave caught that had I not made an investment in a great set of “cans.” So if the extent of your “audiophile” is Airpods or BT speakers, might I suggest at least ONCE listening to a well-produced, HQ song through a set of beyerdynamic North America reference headphones. “Voices of Babylon” by the Outfield, “Yet another Movie” by Pink Floyd, “Rhythm of Love” by Yes, are great examples of phenomenal production. You’ll hear things they threw in you never knew were there! Shared with Abang Abu earlier how easy it is to run your own podcast with one phone and 2 microphones. I was doing this test earlier with Amir Bashirudin in the scene while Nazreen Daud was in the background before The Golden Nuggets Podcast recording and even though in the example, I’m using 2 phones and microphones (it’ll auto sync), all you need is ONE app. The best part is that you can edit the layout and what you want to show. That means your podcast is IG Reel or TikTok ready. You can share straight away. You can also do your captions there but my preference is to do on CapCut so I have more control. But even though your content is TikTok-ready, you still need the right hooks to get traction on your videos. It's a long journey, but the perception of the automotive repair industry is changing. MobileViews Podcast 522: Carpool techie-oke with Steven Hughes This podcast (recorded on Aug. 15, 2024) with frequent podcast panelist Steven Hughes (who was visiting Hawaii on a work trip) is actually more of a recording exercise/test. It was recorded on the road in a car using a pair of Airhug 30 wireless lavalier microphones connected to a receiver on an iPhone 15 Pro Max using the Just Press Record app. The audio was first processed using Adobe Podcast Enhance set at 5% and the further processed with Audacity to reduce the lower frequencies (bass) and increase the high frequencies (treble). I also increased the audio volume since one of the side effects of using Adobe Podcast Enhance is a significant volume reduction. Steve and I discussed a variety of topics including the recent Made by Google product announcements. Note: Yes, I know I misspoke the podcast number when introducing the podcast.
