I have a question for you all: Is AI still the game-changer we think it is for gaining a sustainable competitive advantage? With AI technologies becoming more accessible and widespread, simply implementing them isn't enough to set us apart anymore. It's not just about having AI—it's about how we use it. In the Harvard Business Review article below, Jay Barney and Martin Reeves share that the real differentiator lies in thoughtfully integrating AI into our unique strategies and company cultures. It's about leveraging AI to amplify human creativity, drive innovation, and solve problems in ways that others aren't. So—how are you and your organizations utilizing AI to truly stand out in an AI-saturated world?

Great read, thanks for sharing Sabine! At our purpose-driven firm, we guide individuals in aligning with their core purpose by facilitating self-discovery through exercises. These exercises help them identify their natural strengths and inclinations. The next step in this journey is bridging this heightened self-awareness with curiosity-driven exploration and continuous education, particularly with the transformative capabilities of AI. We’ve found this approach to be a powerful formula for success—both at the individual and organizational level. When individuals gain clarity about their mission and how they can leverage their strengths, integrating AI becomes a seamless process. AI then acts not only as a tool but as a catalyst for empowerment, alignment, and long-term sustainability, enabling people and businesses to achieve their goals with greater precision and innovation.

Thanks for the thought-provoking post, Sabine! Completely agree that AI alone won't solve everything, it’s about knowing how and when to use it. Sometimes, the smartest move is choosing not to use AI when it doesn't add value. For instance, if the problem can be solved more efficiently with human expertise, or if the cost of implementing AI outweighs the benefits, it may be better to avoid it. Also, when data quality is insufficient or when decisions require a deep understanding of nuance and context, traditional methods can outperform. Thoughtful integration, aligned with company culture and strategy, is what truly makes the difference in standing out in an AI-saturated world. 👏

A very good argument by the authors! Unless a company already possesses a unique “unreplicable” advantage, only then generative AI can amplify the existing value. Much appreciated Sabine VanderLinden
