🧼 Specifically, a 1986 essay by environmentalist Jay Westerveld. He argued putting pressure on guests to save the planet by reusing towels, when in reality the motivation was to save on energy bills, was less than honest (see point 6 below).
I remember sceptically scrunching my nose up at these messages when I was young, and it’s fair to say greenwashing tactics have become more sophisticated since then.
Four decades on, one disgruntled hotel guest has transformed into a global maze of consumer protection regulation. 🌍
