𝗔𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗚𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆: 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗗𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 Starting an academic career as a Junior Research Group Leader requires more than academic distinction but strategic planning and careful preparation of your application documents, too. ➡ In our series on academic careers in Germany, we've discussed Junior Group Leader programs and approaching host institutions. Today, we focus on preparing standout documents that meet German academic requirements. ❗ Before drafting your application, research the institution and the specific role you're applying for. Understand the research focus, ongoing projects, and team dynamics. 𝗗𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗘𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗖𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗶𝘇𝗲: Each institution and position has different demands, so a one-size-fits-all approach will not work here. Customize your application to reflect how your research interests align with the institution’s goals. This involves a detailed CV, a targeted cover letter and publication list, and references. 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: Outline your research vision and draft a concrete project that aligns with future colleagues' work. Include a teaching statement reflecting your educational philosophy and methods. Topics like Diversity & Inclusion, Transfer, and Employability might be of interest. 𝗢𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲: Update your LinkedIn, ResearchGate, and other professional profiles to be consistent with your application! 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝗶𝗽𝘀 🔸 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗕𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗱𝗹𝘆 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗪𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘆: While it's important to keep your options open by applying to multiple opportunities, a tailored application requires time and effort. Use resources and reach out to institutions/collaborators to learn more about their expectations. 🔸 𝗦𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀: Critically evaluate your skills and qualifications. Understand the competition level and be realistic about your chances. Don't be afraid to applying early - you might be a good fit or at least get on the radar of future employers! 🔸 𝗕𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁: Rejections are part of the academic journey. It is essential to learn from each experience and continue applying. As hard as it is - persistence is part of your commitment and resilience. 🔸 𝗦𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗙𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸: Use! Your! Network! Including mentors and colleagues, or services at your university to review and provide feedback. ➡️ 𝗡𝗥𝗪 𝗥𝘂̈𝗰𝗸𝗸𝗲𝗵𝗿𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺 - 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗹: With funding of 𝘂𝗽 𝘁𝗼 €𝟭.𝟮𝟱 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 for five years, the program enables researchers to set up their own junior research group at a university in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), Germany. This call is aimed at researchers in the field of 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴. Deadline: January 9, 2025, 4:00 pm CET Apply here: https://shorturl.at/CvCBC

The GLOBAL QUALITY ASSURANCE ASSOCIATION is grateful to have been part of this event where I was one of the keynote speakers. In the just ended 13th Cape Coast Technical University (CCTU) SUSTAINABLE EDUCATIONAL & DEVELOPMENT RESEARCH CONFERENCE (28th-31st August 2024), a QUALITY ASSURANCE question on industry's claims about half-baked graduates was asked. My response was simple & straight forward. Kindly read my submission, watch the video & post your opinion. We can't deny the fact that in some cases, industry is far much ahead of academia in terms of transformation to become more productive & remain relevant, especially in the advent of the fast development in technology & ICT. A good, e.g. is automation & online banking where software and applications are regularly upgraded, updated & replaced at a pace which most Business Schools cannot cope with. Academic institutions wait until there is a graduated cohort to make major changes. Should that still be the case considering how things are moving so fast or there is a need for policy shift? However, there are many areas where academic institutions can also move faster, i.e. curricula review and implementation at lecturer, departmental & faculty levels, without waiting for Senate/Academic Board approvals. Such areas include but are not limited to examples given, teaching & learning tools & methods, among other things. A good e.g. is when there was an outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Once more & more authentic facts about it were gathered, one could teach & examine on it in Biology & Medicine without going for Senate approval. This is because a topic on VIRUSES & VIRAL DISEASES already exists & the COVID-19 pandemic is just an example. However, some lecturers would not teach about it because they were waiting for Senate/Academic Board Approval which is unnecessary for examples to be included in the curricula & takes long because of limited sittings which delay a number of quick decisions to be made. Congratulations to those institutions which sit to make decisions on urgent and/or important matters. Effective internships/industrial attachments, regular interviews & surveys of in-session students, students from internship, outgoing students & working closely with professional bodies could bridge the existing gaps between academia & industry within the context of their unending pushing of certain responsibilities to each other. This is normally coupled with accusations & counteraccusations normally in public. This could be part of washing dirty linen in public newspapers instead of SITTING ON ROUND TABLES TO DISCUSS COOPERATION & COLLABORATION issues instead of CONFLICT & COMPETITION.

5 ways I help international students craft SOPs that screams hallelujah! You see, writing an SOP is like going on a first date. You need to make a great impression, show off your best qualities, and definitely avoid talking about your collections of clothes (unless you're applying to the fashion industry)😂 Now, here is a picture of an SOP that can win the heart of abroad admission team: 🟣Start with a killer opening. A story, a quirky fact, or a moment that shows who you are. Hook them in! 🔴Show off your passion in your field! -What’s your big dream? -Why do you love what you do? -What impact do you want to make? 🟠Share your challenges, growth, and humor. (Schools aren’t just looking for academic robots. They want interesting humans) 🟡Make it clear why the school, the course, makes sense for your journey. (Think of it as a puzzle. show them how you fit perfectly into their program) 🟤Finally, leave them with a clear vision of your future and how they’ll be proud to call you an alumnus someday. Remember, your SOP is not just a document, it’s your story. ‘n when it’s done right, it’s a story that sticks with the admissions team long after they’ve read it. So, send a DM if you want to make your SOP stand out. Because you’re not just applying – you’re arriving! Have a chess-filled day

This is how I got scholarships from Erasmus mundus to study my master in multiple countries. ** Since Erasmus Mundus 2025 Applications are open, I am sharing again this journey. To make things easy, I’ve develop guide. Download to produce similiar results - https://lnkd.in/ePy4e25g I often get asked how did I make such achievements as a 4th year college student from Armenia. Working hard while never a bad thing, is not really a magic that leads to success. Here's the general roadmap -> 0. Understand your research interest Identify your research focus and subjects you are intersted in. Look for the programs that offer the courses and specialization you are interested in through this link: https://lnkd.in/eVxGqd8R Note: don't browse catalogue specificaly for your course, some programs might have your background embedded. Ensure to read the program structure carefully. Note: list of programs for biology / healthcare people -> https://lnkd.in/eCM6mBsk 1. Research target program Check requirements and eligibility. Review recent publications, achievements, trends and current projects to ensure alignment with your academic and research interests. 2. Prepare all documents Carefully gather and prepare all the required documents for your application. Typical documents may include academic transcripts, letters of recommendation, CV, a motivation letter. 3. Write motivation letter This, in my opinion, is the most crucial step. I've made motivation letter template (the template made by reveiwing other successfull motivation letters) with several personalized tips and example, which you can find in the complete guide: https://lnkd.in/eaasDedB The quality of your motivation letter directly results your acceptance rate, so make sure you’re not copying a template from Google or ChatGPT, but actually using something that works. 4. Letters of Recommendations Secure strong letters from people who can attest your academic abilities and potential. Provide them points you want to be covered and ensure the letters alignt with your work and the narrative presented in your motivation letter. 5. Apply for multiple programs Given the competitive nature of the program, you must apply for multiple programs to increase your chances for success. Brownie points: -> There are many types of Europass CV. Make sure to use clear and structred template, which includes also links for each experience. -> Create strong online presence. If possible, create your personal website and present every project you did. There’ll always be someone with more qualifications than you, show in the best way the little you have. ** To make all of this easy for you, i've made a guide with instructions and templates that has gotten me to multiple erasmus mundus programs: https://lnkd.in/eaasDedB -- #master #erasmus #erasmusmundus #scholarship #education #college #guide

Every degree programme builds a skill set through diligent learning, module by module, semester after semester. University education is a holistic journey that requires commitment; skipping classes or expecting to be entirely spoon-fed by your course instructors undermines this process. So, debating the supremacy of skills over degrees, or vice versa, is a pointless bid—it diminishes the societal value of a degree certificate. Whether you are a biologist, lawyer, or political scientist, each profession demands specialized skills, particularly critical thinking and that comes with your degree. You don't need to be, say, a computer scientist to succeed as a lawyer or accountant; what's crucial are the digital skills pertinent to your field as the world evolves, which is acquired through a well-rounded degree programme. It’s another thing if you intend to pivot your career into tech or any fully-computerized venture. The scarcity of jobs isn't a reflection of your degree's worth, unless the curriculum is outdated. The agenda some people push in their rush to market skills as what complete a degree is rooted in the familiar contempt against ‘Yan Boko—the Western-educated individuals—in our part of the world. But many of the promoters of this skill acquisition drive wouldn’t be where they are today without a degree. If most of the skills we emphasize as requisites are acquired in the journey to becoming a degree holder, then what is the essence of this debate? Do not let any bottom-tier motivational speaker bamboozle you into doubting that degrees are the ultimate meal tickets for those without famous surnames. There’s no equalizer like formal education, like acquiring a degree. It has transformed billions of families whose ancestors languished at the bottom of the hierarchy of needs. You are already skilled if you took your academic tasks seriously in school. You don’t have to become a plumber, mechanic or whatnot for your degree to be valuable. It’s an entirely a different conversation if you set out to do something outside your academic specialism. - Written beautifully by Gimba Kakanda.
