Amazon rewards people who can see what's coming around the corner. Social commerce is what's next. And it's coming fast. Amazon just introduced a partnership with TikTok that shows they KNOW it's future of e-commerce. And they've had the Creator Connections program for a while now. It's time for brands to really focus on it. The screenshot is a campaign we just ran with Creator Connections. 5X return on investment! Plus, this content can be used across YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and Amazon Live. Brands MUST embrace collaborating with creators to drive traffic to Amazon if they want to be successful. I predict that in the future, creators' content will be licensed for use in Amazon ads. You'll be able to use UGC in video ads on Amazon just by paying a licensing fee. If you remember, only vendors used to have videos on their listings. I advised sellers around 2015-2016 to start creating videos for their brands, predicting that they would eventually be able to use them in listings and ads. Those who took that advice had a significant advantage when the capabilities were finally available. That's where we are now for Creator Connections. Brands that start leveraging this and TikTok today will be ahead of the curve. They'll have the content ready to license, run ads with, and vet for effectiveness.

#YouTube is teaming up even more with Shopify to take on TikTok Shop, letting creators tag thousands of new brands in their videos. This feels like a smart move, especially since Google’s earlier attempts, like #Google Express (or whatever they ended up calling it), never really took off. I think that was because it got too mixed up with other Google Shopping and #AdWords stuff—no one knew what was going on. Ever thought Amazon could crack the advertising code (NOT Amazon sponsor ADs) that everyone else failed at? Well, they just might have. Commerce ads are the holy grail of advertising. Normally, we talk about performance ads (think "Download this app now!") and brand ads (think "Feel good about our brand"). Both have their perks and pitfalls. Performance ads are all about ROI but struggle to get the right users. Brand ads target the right crowd but can’t measure direct action. Enter commerce advertising. Imagine showing a product, and boom! The user can buy it right there without leaving the app. You can see instant results and tweak as needed. Sounds perfect, right? But it's super tough to pull off. Facebook and Twitter tried and failed. Even during my stint at InMobi, we gave it a go—no dice. Then Instagram showed up and showed us how it's done. They started as a content app, seamlessly adding commerce. The trick? Making ads look and feel like regular content. Users could discover products and buy them without leaving the app. Instagram nailed the native content game. Now, it looks like Amazon might be the next big player. Amazon is using its new product for it, i.e. Amazon Mini TV. They’re flipping the script—starting as a commerce app and adding content. Whether one approach is better than the other is up for debate. However, for Amazon to hit it out of the park, it needs to create content that is as addictive as Instagram’s.
