THE RULES AND GUIDELINES FOR GETTING A PRODUCT ON AMAZON AS A RESELLER (04:14)
Amazon doesn’t want to shut off its marketplace, especially from new product selection. For example, if you like a certain brand of coffee, and you cannot find it on Amazon, you can basically create a listing on behalf of that brand. This process is more difficult to shut off.

A smart brand should do this in advance and list their product on Amazon with their images, their copy, with their warranty etc. Claim your brand.

HOW AMAZON PROTECTS THE OWNER OF THE PRODUCT (07:21)
Amazon actively encourages undercutting of prices and undercutting of retail prices to the detriment of a lot of brands. Amazon versus brands is a narrative that is going to pick up a lot of steam.

It was an HDMI cable -- actually, thousands of them -- that inexorably connected Weiler to e-commerce entrepreneurship and led to his brainchild, Sunken Stone, which he calls "a performance-based Amazon sales agency."
About 10 years ago, after Weiler, had been laid off by Tweeter, a San Diego-based electronics merchandiser, he saw a unique opportunity.

"I realized that we were making less selling TVs than we were selling the cable," said Weiler, a native New Yorker who graduated from San Diego State University's MBA program. "So I sent a few emails out and found a supplier in China. I took a credit card cash advance and bought a thousand cables and I put them up for sale on eBay and Amazon and a bunch of other websites." While golfing with his father, Weiler glanced at his phone and noticed he'd sold 20 of the cables.

"So I sold those thousand, bought 2,000...bought 4,000 and then started bringing in container-fuls of just this cable," said Weiler, still in disbelief of his prescience and subsequent good fortune. "This was just like out of my spare bedroom. No employees, and it kind of just grew from there."

Today, through Sunken Stone as a sales agent on Amazon, Weiler's clients sell about 400 different products, he said.

"Everything from dog pee pads, to handmade hammocks from Mexico, to electronics and hangover pills and everything in between," Weiler said. "And it's really like the same process, over and over, no matter what the product is." Weiler mentors future entrepreneurs at San Diego State.

"I really like the energy and I wish someone had done that for me when I was just like a spastic kid with a million ideas," said Weiler. "Everyone should at least have one activity that they're giving back time and money to...and that's mine."
