A 7-store dealer group. Nearly $700,000 invested annually. All in 3rd parties. Is it working? Can’t say for sure yet, but this is how you find out. Print off all bills and contracts. Actually PRINT them. It’s easier to digest this way. Gather a full understanding of how and why you’re using each vendor. Next, chart each of the following categories: Vendor Monthly Cost Total Cost (annualized) Monthly Lead Volume Total Lead Volume (cumulative) Closing % by Vendor Total Closing % Sales by Vendor Cost per Lead Cost per Sale Then, remove all emotion and start making decisions. The most we’ve ever saved a client in an initial 3rd party audit is $274,000 a year at a small 3-store group comprised of 1 new car franchise (domestic) and 2 separate used car locations. We instantly added to the bottom line, reallocated funds, and grew leads and sales as a result of this restructure. The best part is that closing % went through the roof, even on the 3rd parties we decided to retain. Team morale improved, and the BDC’s confidence grew because they weren’t “wasting their time” with bad leads. You have to see the forest through the trees.
