Let’s get real: airline food isn’t known for thrilling passengers. But why? It’s a blend of tight budgets, the science of dining at 35,000 feet, and rising passenger expectations. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 Margins in air travel are razor-thin, especially in economy. Every dollar saved on food can go elsewhere. Rising food and fuel costs, plus sustainability goals, mean airlines often cut back on meal quality to manage expenses. When you’re serving thousands, cheap and easy often wins over gourmet. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗸𝘆 𝗗𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 Food doesn’t taste the same at altitude. Low humidity and cabin pressure dull taste and smell, so meals have extra salt and sugar to compensate. But with limited space and reheating constraints, presentation and freshness suffer. 𝗦𝗸𝘆-𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 Today’s travelers want more than the basic “chicken or pasta.” They expect meals to match their dietary needs and preferences. Meeting these demands without driving up costs or complicating logistics is a real challenge. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗼𝗺 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗲 It comes down to tight budgets, the science of altitude, and evolving expectations. To elevate the experience, airlines might need to rethink their approach—offering local, customizable options to make meals in the air just a bit more memorable. 👉 Read on for the full article: https://lnkd.in/gmqfu3gf Ready to shape your inflight services and operations? The “Book The Cook” meals we ate were excellent when we flew Singapore Airlines (SQ) SIN-JFK nonstop (November, 2022) Premium Economy, so further improvement will make something that was already among the best on any PE flight we’ve taken across several #airlines even better. However, there were some disappointing #paxex elements on our flight: 1) the rear lavatories were not nearly as clean as they could’ve - or should’ve - been, with one toilet leaking fluid down both sides that puddled on the floor throughout the flight; 2) while the airline says wines & champagne will also be upgraded, the lack of a full, proper cocktail service was truly disappointing for such a long flight (especially one that departs midday/lunchtime) & made the experience seem decidedly less “premium” & more like an elevated Economy Plus (E+) - or as I believe, E++, than a true Premium Economy; 3) the 8-abreast (2-4-2) 19.5” wide inch seats with 38” row pitch aboard SQ’s Airbus A350-900ULR is a bit cramped & even a little claustrophobic for such a long flight (~18.5 hours). 19.5” (49.53 cms) seat width & 38” (96.52 cms) row pitch may be fine for 8-10 hours, but >10 hours definitely feels cramped & confining. No changes to the aircraft seating configuration was announced at this time, with a rumored A350-900ULR cabin update ruled out for the time being, per a recent report available in the reader comments section below. Pro tip: Highly recommend paying the additional fee for the 3 rows of solo seats in the rear of the PE cabin along the windows, where seats are 6-abreast (1-4-1) & there’s a nifty storage compartment next to the seat! #airtravel #business #businesstravel #singapore #avgeek #asiapacific #airlineindustry

Lufthansa's New "Last Minute Food" Service Takes Off! In a groundbreaking initiative, Lufthansa has announced the introduction of "last minute food" on their flights. Here's how it's changing the game: - Sustainability in the Skies: By offering meals at a discounted rate right before landing, Lufthansa not only reduces food waste but also promotes sustainability. - Cost-Effective Dining: Travelers can now enjoy quality meals at lower prices, making in-flight dining more accessible. - A New Travel Trend: This move redefines the 'last minute' concept, now extending to what we eat at 30,000 feet. Lufthansa's initiative is a prime example of how businesses can innovate to benefit both the environment and their customers. It's not just about the journey; it's about making every aspect of travel more sustainable and enjoyable. 🌟✈️ 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝗔𝗶𝗿𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗙&𝗕 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗗𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗢𝗳 𝗗𝘂𝘁𝘆 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲? ✈️ Ever felt a shock at the prices of airport snacks? Travelling through Palma airport (PMI) this weekend, one of our team went to grab some food and a drink and got quite a shock. In the main F&B outlet, the cost of a sandwich, drink, and snack was a whopping €18.60. This is versus just €4.28 downtown! That's quite a difference. 😱 💼 Are these inflated prices impacting shopper perception? At almost €20 for a snack and a drink it's easy to see why shoppers think airport prices are expensive. 🚫 High airport food costs shouldn't leave a bad taste in shoppers' mouths or overshadow the appeal of duty-free deals. 🛍️✨ #AirportPrices #DutyFree #Travelretail #airportshopping

Inspiring Airline Products! "Life (and airline products) is like a sandwich – the more you add to it, the better it becomes." - Unknown Have you ever wonder how airlines get inspiration for their products? 📌 How did Qatar Airways come up with the Qsuite? 📌 Or the more recent Allegris seat from #Lufthansa? 📌 Singapore Airlines or #Emirates with their onboard signature menus? 📌 #Jetblue & their new Blueprint product 📌 How about #Virgin Atlantic & their Clubhouse concept? Where & how do these airlines get their inspiration from? How do they come up with these industry changing ideas? Complex, right - but the inspiration is simple! It's the humble sandwich! Airline products are like sandwiches!!!! You start with the basic - BREAD then keep adding the LAYERS on ;-) (This is where my sarcastic streak comes in) It's all about the mixing, matching & tasting! Here's the recipe; 2 slices of your favorite bread (such as whole grain, white, or sourdough) 2 tablespoons of creamy peanut butter 2 tablespoons of your favorite fruit jam or jelly (strawberry, raspberry, or apricot work well) 1 tablespoon of honey (optional, for added sweetness) A handful of fresh berries or sliced bananas (optional, for extra flavor and texture) A sprinkle of cinnamon or cocoa powder (optional, for a hint of warmth or richness) and Voila you have the #qatarairways Qsuite! oops.... sorry - you need to slice the sandwich into 4 as well! Remember the 4 seat concept! For the Middle East, maybe the inspiration is not actually jam & peanut butter sandwiches! It's from Shawarma ;-) And for economy, the sandwich concept works just as well! Remember the saying "Sandwich them all in together" ;-) Enjoy your sunday lunch ..... I meant High Tea! #aviation #travel #airlines

In the aviation industry Onboard Services are one of the most important key of success. In my opinion all the Airlines in the Top 10 have an organisation with a specific focus on Inflight Services including Design, Operations, Planning and Quality. Catering Management are embracing innovation and sustainability concepts that needs to be included in all the Operational Processes. In the next future all the Airlines are going to work on their Organisation and on skilled people to give the right importance to the On-board Services. #airlines #catering #onboardservices #innovation
