Speaking Facts!
“You helped us hit our diversity quota for the quarter.” Time to remove the label “Diversity Hire”! Labeling someone as a "diversity hire" implies that their success is solely attributed to their identity rather than their qualifications, skills, and accomplishments. This undermines their hard work and contributions, leading to unfair assumptions about their capabilities. Using the term "diversity hire" perpetuates harmful stereotypes by suggesting that individuals from over-looked groups are hired solely to meet diversity quotas. This reinforces the idea that certain groups are less capable or deserving of their positions, which is not only untrue but also harmful. #diversityhire #inclusion #culture

I tend to disagree with the broad logic of graphic's like this. It purports to distill the desires of entire generations down to a few things. Then, it more or less intimates employers should accomodate each generation's workers in what they want. Then, it says individuals are different, so treat them differently. So, why don't I just skip to the individual part, then? As an employer, we have a culture at our firm. Our job is not to change our stripes, but to find people of every generation who are compelled by our culture and wish to join it. So, I'll just focus on attracting the individual without worrying all that much about the generation. Recruiting is 99% about exclusion, and 1% about inclusion. You want to exclude everyone of every generation that does not fit your particular set of values and your culture. That's how you create and maintain a culture: One individual at a time.

🌍 National Inclusion Week 2024: Building an Inclusive Hiring Process 🤝 As Recruiters, it is essential that we create an inclusive hiring process, ensuring that at every stage we are creating an environment where all candidates feel valued, respected, and supported every step of the way. Here are a few ways to promote inclusivity in hiring: 1. Write Inclusive Job Descriptions: Use neutral language and focus on the skills needed for the role. Avoid gendered terms or unnecessary jargon that may discourage certain groups from applying. 2. Diverse Interview Panels: Ensure your interview panel reflects a variety of perspectives. This helps to create a fairer assessment and makes candidates feel more represented. 3. Accessible Hiring Process: Offer accommodations for candidates with disabilities, such as flexible interview formats or assistive technologies. 4. Ongoing Education: Provide regular training on unconscious bias and cultural competency for your hiring teams to ensure they are continually improving in their approach. Inclusion in hiring is more than a trend, it is a commitment to building a workplace where everyone, regardless of background, can thrive. Let’s work together to ensure every candidate feels like they belong!
