37 vs 2.5 I often get people tell me that Rec to Rec must be easy money because recruiters are really easy to get hold of. So far this year at DS Recruit, the average time from first contact with a candidate in the recruitment industry to them signing an offer is 37 months. Easy to get hold of - yes. Easy to talk with - usually, as most recruiters have similar personalities and are talkative. Easy to get their trust quickly, or to get their buy-in - not so much. It is still very much a relationship driven business We also managed to make some software engineering placements in companies owned by people I surf/foil with. Average time from first contact to signed offer in these cases is between 2-3 months. Admittedly, the consultant who found the candidates and ran the processes has a good network, and knows where to look for these specific roles, but all the candidates were new. Interested to hear how long the cycle between first contact to placement is in other industries

I agree with the sentiment. The purpose of a compliance audit is to get an accurate and honest assessment of how well an organisation adheres to regulations. Giving advance notice can sometimes allow time for issues to be covered up or "cleaned up" before the audit, which defeats the purpose. A surprise audit, on the other hand, offers a clearer snapshot of day-to-day operations and true compliance.

🚨 UPDATE 🚨 So, I've completed my second full week in recruiting, working on behalf of KCR Connect. While the first week felt strong, this second week has been more difficult and given me a more realistic expectation of the recruitment industry. Responses of "call back in the new year", among other phrases, have been ringing in my ears and have given me a new challenge to chew on. Asking 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, to both candidates and clients, has been effective in helping me combat pushback and expand my understanding of the industry. This has helped me learn a lot more about fire alarm and door engineers by asking and listening to a mix of candidates and clients. So I thought I'd leave this post on an open question... Are you looking to start a new hire in the new year? You had better start the recruitment process soon if you are. We are fast approaching the end of the calendar year. 💭 From shortlist to contract on average permanent hires take 2 weeks and contract hires take 1 week. 💭 On top of that you need 4 weeks for the new hire to resign from their current role, with holiday and shut downs, this can take longer at this time of year. 💭 This is a minimum of 3 weeks to get a contractor started and 6 week process for permanent hire, that is if everything runs on time.
