This pilot stretch on I-94 near Rawsonville Road uses cutting-edge technology to create a real-time digital model of road conditions, aiming to enhance safety today and support autonomous vehicles tomorrow. Great news for Toledo and the automotive industry! The U.S. Department of Energy has awarded $32.6 million to support the production of the Jeep Gladiator plug-in hybrid. This funding will enable American Autoparts and Mobis North America to build a new battery plant and convert a chassis assembly plant at the Stellantis Toledo Assembly Complex. Ameren Illinois Company released its Beneficial Electrification (BE) plan on July 1, aiming to support EV adoption in Illinois through: - Time-of-use rates - Optimized off-peak charging - Improved charging infrastructure for transit, school buses, government, and private fleets - Public charging in rural, densely populated, and highway locations - Increased EV access and charging in equity investment-eligible and low-income communities - Emission reduction in high-traffic, low-income areas - Enhanced customer education on electrification The BE Plan must be cost-beneficial and not harm non-EV owners, particularly in low-income communities. BE Plan 2 covers Residential, Schools, Community, Commercial and Industrial (C&I), and Training & Customer Education segments, with targeted incentives for equity investment-eligible and low-income individuals. The State of Michigan has chosen BETA TECHNOLOGIES as one of four recipients of over $6 million in grant funding to enhance Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) infrastructure. This initiative, funded through Michigan’s AAM Activation Fund, is part of a broader strategy to prepare the state for AAM operations and foster coordination across state entities for accelerated growth. This project signifies BETA’s inaugural venture into Michigan, focusing on deploying charging infrastructure. Nate Ward, BETA’s head of Network Development, emphasized the transformative potential of AAM, stating, “AAM has the power to change the way we move goods and people significantly. It will increase operational safety and reliability while also reducing costs and emissions.” BETA will utilize the funding to install multimodal, interoperable electric chargers at four airports throughout Michigan: Cherry Capital Airport (TVC) in Traverse City, Capital Region International Airport (LAN) near Lansing, West Michigan Regional Airport (BIV), and Willow Run Airport (YIP) near Detroit. These chargers use the internationally recognized CCS standard, ensuring compatibility with electric cars, trucks, and airplanes. BETA’s chargers received certification from Underwriter’s Laboratory (UL Solutions) in April. “BETA is focused on building dependable and accessible charging infrastructure that will enable this new mode of transportation,” added Ward. “Michigan has a long history of driving transformation in mobility, and we’re grateful to be working with Michigan on this transformative technology.” This grant comes amid BETA’s broader efforts to establish a nationwide network of charging infrastructure. Currently, BETA has 20 sites operational along the east and gulf coasts, with 50 more in development. In November, BETA agreed to supply aircraft chargers to fellow eVTOL developer Archer. Archer uses BETA’s Charge Cubes at its flight test bases and an undisclosed number of Mini Cube mobile charging systems. Adam Goldstein, Archer’s founder and CEO, highlighted the importance of fast charging for the scalability of electric air taxis. BETA also partnered with Signature Aviation to install charging infrastructure at three on-airport locations across the US east coast. Losing $5B is a serious hit and with VW's announcement to close three plants in Germany, we're starting to see the Automakers get in real trouble over their EV investments. Farley spoke of the “slow uptake of EVs” during Ford’s third-quarter earnings call with analysts Oct. 28 and predicted Ford would lose US$5 billion this year on its battery-powered models.
