My Take on the US proposed rescheduling of cannabis The proposal to reschedule cannabis from Schedule I to Schedule III, is a very interesting paper to read. The DEA, it seems, has applied a different method of analyzing the use, effects and danger parameters of cannabis versus other drugs with high potential for abuse listed in Schedule I, and has reversed its 2016 negative opinion. It has done so based, at the end, on the contradictory fact, that because multiple States have ignored the FDA and DEA, and have set up a medical cannabis regime – this in itself has allowed the DEA to collect a lot more data on cannabis, ultimately reaching the conclusion that cannabis has comparably less potential for abuse. If we put aside Biden's wish to get more people to vote for him, this change in policy is an example of how, sometimes, grassroots movements do change federal policy. I do want to pose a question for Americans reading this post: Will rescheduling prompt doctors to write more prescriptions, knowing that they are not breaking federal law (as Schedule I drugs are not to be prescribed), although such prescriptions are for products that are not FDA approved? https://lnkd.in/d2R42zbd

A new set of criteria for qualifying for a public convenience and advantage waiver was proposed at today’s Cannabis Control Board meeting. The criteria include the following: 1. Distance from Other Retail Dispensaries: The proposed location must be at least: - 1,000 feet from any existing retail dispensary in jurisdictions with a 1,000-foot minimum distance requirement. - 2,000 feet from any existing retail dispensary in jurisdictions with a 2,000-foot minimum distance requirement. 2. Geographic, Structural, or Topographic Barriers: The existence of barriers (such as waterways, major roadways, highways, or significant travel distances) that separate the proposed location from existing dispensaries. 3. Travel Distance: The actual distance between the proposed location and existing dispensaries, as measured by pedestrian or vehicle routes. 4. Unique Factors of the Proposed Location: Factors that may justify the location, such as: - High consumer demand for additional retail dispensaries or microbusinesses. - The presence of illicit or former illicit cannabis dispensaries near both the proposed and existing locations. - Other relevant factors that may support the need for greater access to adult-use cannabis in the area. 5. Notification to Local Authorities: The licensee must send a notification to the local municipality or community board, informing them of their intention to request a waiver from the Board for not meeting the 1,000-foot or 2,000-foot minimum distance requirement. The municipality or community board will have 45 days to respond before the Board considers the application. Mr. Kagia mentioned that the Board would consider more than this information alone when deciding to grant a waiver and that it would be up to their discretion. Chairman Wright raised concerns about the 45-day period, and the Board voted to approve the criteria with an amendment for licensees who have already received municipal support.

Retail Cannabis doesn’t need cashiers, it needs compassionate people who care about the… 1. Industry in a whole. 2. Consumer and consumers needs: medical, mental, to get high… 3. A SALES team mentality, who is pushing weed. Like that old dope boy from the 90’s.

What do you think the FDA/USDA will allow big pharma, big alcohol, big tobacco, etc. to put in our #cannabis once they take over the industry? The business model is clear if you look at other industries in the US that have gone from local markets to the industrial model Produce subpar, genetically modified commodities at scale, add preservatives to store and ship nationwide and globally. Incredibly sad that we have proven safety associated to naturally present cannabinoids in cannabis such as cbd, cbg, and cbc as depicted in this 12 week trial. https://lnkd.in/dd5qrTxy? and yet we have bills like the Miller bill and others that not only lack industry knowledge but also education or lived experience. It Is easy to make decisions on behalf of special interest groups when you are not personally impacted. Levering outside forces such as faulty marketing practices (claiming marketing to children), the use of unestablished alternatives such as HHC has led to the legislative perspective we need to “save” the kids, and regulate this harder.  My belief in reality, while likely not a popular one, all distillate included thc, cbd, and other major cannabinoid should be produced and derived from low potency cannabis otherwise know as hemp, why? Well the scalability, cost and turn over makes business sense and is practical to meet the scale needed for consumers. Traditional cannabis will become more based on qualitative metrics rather then only quantitive. We will see a model that reflects the wine experience, frankly total thc will become less relevant once consumers and brand actually market and depict all the relevant info associated to the goods such as total VOCs including terpene, Flavinoids, esters (flavor compounds) and other actives. People will shop for experience not numbers. Concentrates will have their place to as a true experience of what that plant has to offer in a compact form without the need for combustion. Just like other personalization experiences cannabis will too become that if not sucked into a pharma only paradigm. It’s a shame many of the players doing right by their end users are getting the short hand of the stick due to the discrepancy of perception versus reality. There is proven efficacy for those who has taken an alternative approach to their health I don’t think this interference is warranted.

The Michigan Cannabis Regulatory Agency (MI-CRA) "...gave strong consideration to the bidders ability to prevent fraud, abuse, and other unlawful and prohibited activities..." What??? As a laboratory consultant who works exclusively in the #cannabis industry, I believe #outcomes and #value are far superior to a slick sales pitch and low price. Since 2017, the only feedback I have heard from my Michigan cannabis business clients is that fraud, abuse, and illegal activities are rampant and have only accelerated. That doesn't seem like a desired outcome. Many exceptionally talented scientists and businesspeople I’ve worked with to establish and grow their laboratory businesses have suffered life-altering economic losses and barriers to future employment. They chose to stand against consumer fraud, ultimately closing their #laboratories and vaporizing several million dollars of investment along with years of backbreaking effort and now get ghosted by any non-cannabis scientific opportunity. That is the antithesis of value. I am strongly pro-MI CRA and fully acknowledge the complexity and difficultly of their mandate, but IMHO neither the published outcomes nor value appear to match the KPI's for this software selection.
