And here is an exciting new concept: #Network as a #Sensor, ie using the mobile network itself - its sites, spectrum, radio hardware, waveforms and signals - to enable the identification of an object’s size and shape, location, speed and direction, WITHOUT the need for this object to be connected! Industries need IT and OT to work together. But connecting them creates risks. Therefore, advanced IoT protocols step in to secure those connections. MQTT, CoAP, and OPC UA build trust between systems. As a result, data flows securely. Without these protocols, systems remain exposed. Thus, real-time monitoring and predictive maintenance won’t reach their potential. Secure connections allow smarter decisions. With Tuesday’s opening of the Impower Connection site in Happy, Texas, 32 NEVI-funded sites were open to EV drivers, with a total of 135 ports. Since I wrote this post late Tuesday, at least two more sites in Ohio have opened, bringing the total to 34 sites, with 13 sites now opened in November. With the exception of June this year, which saw four NEVI sites open, all other months have had no more than two sites open — until the current month of November. Since the first Pilot Travel Center site opened in Ohio last October, at least one new site has opened each month except for November 2023 and January 2024. Ten states have at least one open NEVI-funded site for EV drivers, with Ohio lapping the field with (now) 17 sites, including eleven that opened just in November. New York (4) and Pennsylvania (3) are a distant second and third respectively. The remaining seven states have either one or two open NEVI sites. It is no coincidence that the number of NEVI-funded sites opening has suddenly increased, and we expect to see double-digit openings each month going forward. To date, the overall average days to opening a NEVI site from the date awards were announced, is just under one year. However, recent site openings are averaging nearly 15 months from the awards date, aligning with when the first states began announcing NEVI awards to applicants in 2023.
